Silver Supporting Member Joined Mar 1, 2012 Messages 3,538 Reaction score 3,052 Location New Jersey Celestion G12H-30 Anniversary vs. G12H-75 Creamback: Is there a tonal difference between these 2 speakers or is it just the power handling capabilities? If the only difference is the power rating, I don't think I need a Creamback. I want to pair it up with a 5w Fargen Townhouse head - which gets the tones of a tweed and a brownface. In your opinion, do you think a more traditional tweed/brownface tone would come through with an "H" or an "M" Celestion? I plan on getting an Avatar 1x12 cabinet and would like to go with the speaker options that they have (they seem to be great deals in a loaded cabinet).

Do you think it would sound good with a 5w tweed/brownface style amp (Fargen Townhouse)? Or should I go for something with a lower power rating? Gas Hed

Joined Jan 21, 2012 Messages 1,449 Reaction score 2,788 It seems I may be in the minority when I say I like bright barky tones, so for me, the 30 is the way to go. I've owned both the 30 and the Creamback at the same time and thought the 30 had more of the brightness I'm looking for.

The last thing I am looking for is a "dark" speaker. I, too, prefer a brighter sound. Not piercing, but clear highs and lows that don't sound like there is a blanket over the cabinet. Still wondering if a 75w (or 65w) power rated speaker is too much for a 5w amp. is the Creamback too much speaker for my amp? J

I think you'd be happy with the G12H30. Where are you in Jersey? I'm in Philly area, you could borrow mine to see.

Hey, thanks for the offer! I'm in Central Jersey - probably an hour and a half from Philly. New Hope is about 40 minutes... I have a G12H30 and I like it, but toying with the idea of a different speaker - which is what made me look at the Creamback. I might expand into looking at some other choices. I am mainly concerned with getting a nice clear tone out of a tweed/brownface voiced 5w amp. I very well might end up with another G12H30.

Joined May 20, 2004 Messages 1,738 Reaction score 72 Location Charleston, SC Celestion designed the G12H75 Creamback to be a higher wattage G12H30 with minimal tone differences. I've had both at the same time & they're very similar sounding, with the Creamback being a little less bright and with slightly more forward mids. Low wattage speakers work better with low wattage amps and will hit their sweet spot sooner without being pushed as hard. It's unlikely that the Creamback will ever get there with a 5 watt amp. With the minimal difference in sound and given your amp's power, save your money & stick with the G12H30. You can compensate for the minor differences with your tone controls. BTW...if you like the sparkle/chime of a Celestion Blue, the G12H30 gets closer to that than the Creamback. Last edited: Sep 2, 2015

IMHO, the G12H pairs really well with another speaker (i.e., Celestion Blue, Weber Ceramic Blue Dog, etc.). Also been a "go to" speaker for TopHat, Dr. Z & Louis Electric in various 18 - 30 watt 1x12 combos. The SPL of a G12H30 (75 Hz) is 99db - 100db. Thus, it's a very efficient speaker. I believe the newer Heritage G12H30 (55 Hz) is also around 100db; so you get a bit more stout bottom end while retaining the efficiency. Not sure about the Creamback. A "softer" sound (if that's what you are after) might be a Heritage G12M - it's around 96db. Thus, it won't sound quite as "present" or loud as any of the G12H30 variants. F

Joined Oct 21, 2008 Messages 246 Reaction score 186 Sinasl1 is dead on. I own both the G12H75 and the G12H30 (Anniversary). The H75 Creamback would be my pick for a single 1x12. I would choose the H75 over the M65 as well unless you told me you were specifically going for a Greenback sound. I guess my only *but* comes into play when I ask what volume you're playing at...? The G12H30 is a nice speaker, but gets brighter and brighter the louder you get. For playing at low/med volumes at home it can be perfect, but for a loud gig/recording....the G12H75 might be a better sounding speaker over all frequencies. It is a great all around speaker. As always....YMMV. A
