These are very close in performance and lap times. Stock C6 Corvette 60-100 mph 5.5 seconds, C5 Z06 5.2 seconds. C6 Corvette 100-150 mph 15.4 seconds, C5 Z06 14.9 seconds. So a slight edge up to 150 mph for the C5 Z06 on acceleration compared to a stock C6 Corvette. The cornering grip on original equipment tires is equal at 0.98g on the skidpad. Top speed on the autobahn favors the C6 Corvette. I suspect that my slightly modified C6 Corvette is as quick or perhaps a bit quicker than a stock C5 Z06. Both of these Corvette models would greatly benefit from new performance tires. The interior quality of the C6 Corvette has better feeling materials and the seats are more supportive with longer lower cushions. I think these Corvette models were, and are amazing. Their styling and performance are impressive even today.

This scoring doesn’t add up, C6 faster straight line score, but slower in all individual metrics? The C6 is probably the better buy for 9/10 drivers but for track/competition purposes its pretty clear its 85-90% as fast as the C5Z

This is a close match, but the edge goes to the newer C6 Corvette. The short gearing of the C5 Z06 gives an edge in off the line acceleration, but requires earlier shifting into the higher gears which in turn slows it at the higher speeds of many race tracks. The C6 was an evolution and perfection of the C5 in many ways. I much prefer my current C6 to the C5 even though much of the underlying engineering is similar. The LS2 is a very strong engine. I had some issues with the C5 (it had a steering interlock mechanism malfunction, and it needed frequent battery replacement). No problems with the C6 other than normal maintenance.

I have to politely disagree. The LS2 sure was a step above the C5 but I think the edge it has over the C5Z is total acceleration at high speeds. Especially an early and bare bone C6 without the Z51 has several disadvantages over the Z, at least in my experience. It takes the LS3 to iron out all the minor bugs the early C6 has, too.

An acquaintance of mine has a C5 Z06, and according to him, the only reason this car doesn't accelerate over 275 km/h is gearing. At that speed, it hits the limiter in 5th, and 6th is too long for acceleration and only designed to save fuel.Up to 170 mph the C5 Z06 most likely accelerates faster than the C6 because it's lighter and more powerful.

Makes sense to me. This might only be a real problem on the Nürburgring at Döttinger Höhe, cause that Z is at least just as fast in acceleration as a Ferrari 360 at low speeds.

So far no problems with 85k miles on the C6. Push button start eliminates the steering interlock issue. The LS3 is better by 25 to 30 rear wheel horsepower, but the LS2 is enough.

Good on you then. My Corvette "buddies" from several meets usually told me which models/years to stay away from when I ever consider my next car. Especially the early ones tend to be plagued with minor issues but are overall reliable.As for me, I'd own a C5 Z06 just for that extra rarity. They never sold officially here in Germany so there's only a handful left.
