mauipaul M By accident I discovered an inexpensive and fantastic functional Bluetooth player that only requires an AUX imput that I already have and use for playing Ipod that has gone the way of the dinosaur. Also have one in the house using cell phone as portable player. Sound quality is absolutely perfect on high end equipment. The unit is called MPOW and the most recent version cost $18 free shipping on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075JCCLVK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Simply plug into mini jack imput and Pair the device in 10 sec. Originally I used this unit to charge it and the phone: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0795DJXNH/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Since the W210 lighter socket has no clearance above it when the door is closed decided to use the storage bin above and bought a different charger: https://www.ebay.com/itm/5V-4-2A-Du...rkt=12&mehot=pp&sd=401505789680&itm=132225301652&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851 Also bought a small sheet of 1/8" ABS plastic to craft a wall to hold the charger. Had to drill a one inch hole in it to hold the charger as seen in pics. Have to tap into the cig lighter hot for power and find a suitable ground to complete the project soon... #1 · Apr 25, 2018 By accident I discovered an inexpensive and fantastic functional Bluetooth player that only requires an AUX imput that I already have and use for playing Ipod that has gone the way of the dinosaur. What is the source for your tunes? Phone? Is your aux input a previous install? My vehicle is a 98 e430 with factory sound system. BTW, Ebay sellers have these units for $12 w/free shipping. I boycott Bezos. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Mpow-Wireless-Bluetooth-4-1-Receiver-Car-Kit-3-5mm-Stereo-Audio-Music-Adapter-US/112307119540?epid=19010498248&hash=item1a2606a5b4:g:D1gAAOSwigla2qGD #4 · Apr 25, 2018

Actually I was looking at the device below for $3.99, not for the car but for my home. I have good speakers for my Desktop PC and the main unit has aux input which I can use this to listen from my smartphone. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Car-Blueto...e08-48a9-11e8-9b72-74dbd18073c7|parentrq:fdba0f241620a991c1930bc3fff98c63|iid:1 Show more replies 1 Reply #3 · Apr 25, 2018 i love DIY hacks. but I only recently learned what Bluetooth was so haven't had a need for this.....yet. I just plug earbud/mic into my phone during my drives. but I'll bookmark this in case I catch up with technology in the next few yrs. #6 · Apr 26, 2018 install considerations What I like about it is keeping the stock look, having superb sound quality, and how inexpensive it is assuming one is up for gathering the parts and doing the install... The mount for cell phone is only $9 and fits perfectly on the left side of glove box. It's the perfect size and rotates 360 degrees. The USB right angle charging cables took a while to find on eBay and now fully 70% of the sellers will not ship to Hawaii despite the fact that it costs no more. So had to have a mainland friend order them, wait to receive, and then send them on to me. That is the problem with eBay where its often easier to get things shipped from China than California to the islands... 0 Reply #7 · Apr 27, 2018 I just use one of the cassette Bluetooth adapters. While I do have to charge it maybe once every week or two, the sound quality from it using an iPod is far better than using the auxiliary input that I had added to the head unit by Becker. I have one of these: https://www.amazon.com/ION-Audio-Cassette-Adapter-Bluetooth/dp/B00I3YLHAC Saves on carving stuff up, too. Dan #8 · Apr 27, 2018 What you are suggesting is that somehow the signal from a cassette is superior to the digital imput using the aux imput hack. That is not remotely possible. The hack has no issue with sound quality for Ipod as the sound quality was superb already. In any case glad you are satisfied with your cassette solution. To me this workaround is inadequate. Show more replies 0 Reply #12 · Apr 28, 2018 It was just an example. Actually you can get the same one from China for $2.99 :) I do not really have a strong need for it, and it is amazing that you can get it at that price, with free shipping. Some shops sell just the charger cable alone, at that price. For the car, I do not have a the aux. port hack, and I do not think many people do. I do not really listen to the radio / cassette / CD, while I am driving. If I needed to use the bluetooth, my choice would be the cassette adapter. One day they will have a version that generates its own charging power from the spinning action of the playback hub:) #13 · Apr 29, 2018 OK, here I am about to admit my ignorance in this area. I have the aux hack, and am quite happy to just plug the aux cable into the earphone Jack on my phone. What would I gain with this Bluetooth receiver, other than letting somebody in the backseat contribute the music? #14 · May 4, 2018 Bluetooth wireless charger interface with OEM stereo Installation of USB 2 port charger in lined storage bin now complete. Used MPOW Bluetooth and previously installed Aux Input hack. Sound quality for Ipod was fine and retained OEM 6 disc changer in truck, with original head unit. Wanted bluetooth with charging to eliminate Ipod and have a better hands free interface Very happy with the results though it took much engineering to make it stealth and retain the OEM components. Gathering up all the parts was the most time consuming so thought to write it up. You will see pics of the mod and costs involved along with photos. Waiting for right angle USB cables in correct lengths to arrive to make it even better. Sound quality is outstanding The storage compartment on Mercedes E and CLK class (W210) is lined with cheap rubber that does not age well. It cracks and gets gummy. So, remove the compartment by opening up drink holder, and pulling up on shift surround on back edge to access two small phillips head screws holding ash tray compartment inplace. Remove. Now reach through opening and depress tab on top of storage compartment allowing its removal (See pic). Use small hard blade scraper to chip out the failed rubber, then clean with mineral spirits. You will now have a hard black plastic compartment ready for lining. Get some foam lined headliner material from JoAnnes Fabrics and a small can of headliner glue from HD. Cut pieces to size and glue in place. Take care not to use too much glue as it can eat foam. I . Before you glue in place enlarge hole on back to route USB cable. MPOW Bluetooth most RECENT version has improvements well worth $18 on Amazon. The cheaper units are not comparable. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075JCCLVK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Charge MPOW and plug mini jack cable in to pair the device in only 10 sec. #15 · May 4, 2018 Did you remove the "phone" from the lower bay or did you not have the factory unit? My '98 has the phone unit. #16 · May 4, 2018 i recently replaced my phone unit with a storage compartment i found at pick-n-pull. removed the handset from under the armrest too. pretty easy to access if you have the radio keys. pull the radio (don't need to disconnect) then you can push the tab on top of the frame to remove the phone unit as shown in the photo above. i used an older ipod adapter that plugs into the cd changer connection. after apple moved to the lightning cable, another adapter allows me to connect / charge a modern iphone.
