carlos_31820 C For the past few days, I've been having an intermittent issue with the rear, driver-side door on my 06 Jetta. The problem is that after locking the car either using the key fob or the key, this one door remains unlocked while the 3 other doors lock. I scanned the car with Vag Com and only found a fault regarding an intermittent open circuit for the radio speaker on that same door - I cleared the code and it never came back. It appears that some switch in that door is getting confused. Whenever the issue occurs, opening the offending door doesn't make the dome light come on. Opening any of the other 3 doors makes the dome light come on. If I sit in the car with all the doors closed and unlocked, I see that the key (locked) icon is lit up on the bad door. The door, however, is unlocked. Pressing the lock button on the remote causes all other doors to lock (the key icon is lit up on those 3 doors) but the bad door's key icon turns off!. The only fix is to lock and unlock the doors repeatedly until it eventually works and the door locks fine. The car is out of warranty and I'm trying to find out if this is something I can fix myself. Perhaps replacing a switch inside that door or something similar. I'm not sure how expensive this part may be. I found some threads talking about replacing a switch but nothing specific enough. Have any of you fixed this problem yourself? #1 · Apr 19, 2010 For the past few days, I've been having an intermittent issue with the rear, driver-side door on my 06 Jetta. It was a problem with the MK4s and still is with some MK5s. I had the issue on both my MK4s and my current MK5. You need to get it replaced. You have to remove the outer door skin in order to get to the faulty switch. #3 · Apr 19, 2010 99.5, thanks for the quick reply. I appreciate it. #4 · Apr 20, 2010 Re: (carlos_31820) I have the same problem with my car but I've gotten used to it now. As far as making sure the driver door locks, I made a change in VCDS so that when I press the unlock on my remote, all doors unlock at once rather than the default setting (ie, push once, driver unlocks, push twice all the other unlock). In my case, my driver door has now always locked, even though it's a half-second later than the others... hope that makes sense... From what I've read, the microswitch in the door (or something like that) is the true fix for this. #5 · Apr 20, 2010 Re: (muicha) i had the same problem with my drivers door. dealer fixed it free of charge Image #6 · Apr 23, 2010 same issue here on the back right side. seems like sometimes the driver door also does it. anyone know part numbers #7 · Apr 23, 2010 Re: (mikebbugn)

Happened twice on my driver's door, dealer fixed it both times for free. Door latch replacement both times, exactly like the Mk4 issues #8 · Jun 8, 2010 Driver's door lock failed1 I have same issue on mine. I have 2005.5 2.5 model and about 8 months ago driver's door started not locking and unlocking with a remote, only with a key in the door from outside. So this microswitch, what does it look like and what is the part number for it, my car is out of warrnanty but could get the part cheap from a friend that works in VW, how much is the part fro mthe dealer? Is it hard to replace? Anyone done it when they were out of warranty on these? thank you for your help. #9 · Jun 14, 2010 I have same issue with rear passenger side door. Which part# has to be replaced? #10 · Jun 14, 2010 spoke to my friend who is a VW mech in a diff state and he told me to definetly check the harness being damaged between the door and the door jam, they had a lot of issues like that, rather that being a lock microswitch.. i will check mine soon, when i have time. #11 · Jun 14, 2010 Spasibo! #12 · Jun 14, 2010 nezashto #13 · Jun 14, 2010 (Edited) I just repaired my 2006 MKV Jetta door lock. Mine was also a faulty micro switch so the Radio Shack $3 switch replacement did the trick. VW does not sell the micro-switch. They only sell the entire lock/latch assembly. For anyone considering doing this for an MKV, the procedure is close to what's detailed on the MKIV writeup but not 100% accurate. For MKV, you will need to do the following... * Remove door trim covering door skin bolts. * Remove door handle. Remove the single bolt that is behind the door handle you just removed. * Remove outer door skin (you don't need to remove the inside door panel). Remove bolts holding outer door skin. Note that although all these bolts are Torx T-30, there are three distinct sizes. Make note of which bolt goes where. Remove door skin. * With door skin removed, remove the inner bracket that holds the door handle. It's pretty simple, there are no bolts, it just comes out. There is a small rubber band on one of the upper mounting points. * With the door skin off, you are now ready to remove the door lock/latch assembly. Undo the wiring harness. Now using a triple square/12-point 6mm bit, remove the two black bolts holding the door latch assembly to the door. * With the lock assembly loose, swing it toward you so you can undo the door latch cable. This is the cable that opens the door when the inner door handle is used. * After the cable is removed, the door lock/latch assembly is now free. * Follow the instructions in the original MKIV DIY to repair your door lock/latch. * Reverse these steps to put everything together. Here's the MKIV DIY I referenced... http://jettajunkie.com/vw-jetta/showthread.php/diy-mkiv-door-locks-explained-fixes-1895.html? #14 · Jun 14, 2010 (Edited) carlos_31820, thanks a lot for your DIY! In my case, I guess, dlomonosov mentioned right solution. I just reconnected the door harness and locker started working properly. Let see how it will work in future. Thanks again! #15 · Jun 15, 2010 I can't claim credit for the DIY. I came across it while searching for "microswitch". Anyway, that DIY is very accurate since the locking mechanism/latch is the same design on the MKIV and MKV. The only differences are in taking the door apart since in our car, you access the latch/lock assembly by removing the door skin. #16 · Aug 4, 2010 same problem Carlos, I've got the same problem on the same door of my 06 GLI. Do you know the radioshack part number or got a pic of it so i can get the switch before tearing my door apart? thanks! #17 · Aug 2, 2016 Bringing this thread back because I didn't see a recent one. I've got an 05 mk5 jetta. I just replaced the drivers side door harness as it had broken wires. My passenger front door has only ever locked intermittently. Let me get this straight, mk5 has chronic door harness, door latch, and lock switch issues? Seems kind of unusual but I'll roll with it. question: When I open the passenger door and hit the lock/unlock button I can hear the rest of the doors lock/unlock. The front passenger works once in awhile but not always. Is it fair to assume that it's not the harness since the button locks/unlocks the rest of the doors? If that's the case I'm left with door latch or door lock actuator. Is that about right? I've already had 1 door apart so I'd be pretty fast on this one but not sure if I need a latch or the actuator or whatever it's called. Insert Quotes Post Reply
