Size and weight are big decision factors when you are trying to find the ideal camera for your needs. In this section, we are going to illustrate the Fujifilm X-E1 and Fujifilm X-M1 side-by-side from the front, back and top in their relative dimensions. Fujifilm X-E1 has external dimensions of 129 x 75 x 38 mm (5.08 x 2.95 x 1.5″) and weighs 350 g (0.77 lb / 12.35 oz) (including batteries). Fujifilm X-M1 has external dimensions of 117 x 67 x 39 mm (4.6 x 2.62 x 1.54″) and weighs 330 g (0.73 lb / 11.64 oz) (including batteries).

Below you can see the front-view size comparison of the Fujifilm X-E1 and the Fujifilm X-M1. Fujifilm X-M1 is 12mm narrower and 8mm shorter than Fujifilm X-E1 but it is also 1mm thicker.

Weight is another important factor, especially when deciding on a camera that you want to carry with you all day. Fujifilm X-M1 is 20g lighter than the Fujifilm X-E1 but we don't think this will make a significant difference.

Also keep in mind that body weight is not the only deciding factor when comparing two interchangeable camera bodies, you also have to take into account the lenses that you will be using with these bodies. Since both Fujifilm X-E1 and Fujifilm X-M1 have the same Fujifilm X lens mount and APS-C sized sensors, lenses will not be a differentiator on total size of the system.

Unfortunately neither the Fujifilm X-E1 nor Fujifilm X-M1 provides any type of weather sealing in their bodies, so you have to give extra care especially when you are shooting outdoors. If weather sealing is a must-have feature for you, check these sections: Top Mirrorless Cameras with Weather Sealing

LCD Screen Size and Features

Fujifilm X-M1's 3.00" LCD screen is slightly larger than Fujifilm X-E1's 2.8" screen.

In addition to the size advantage, Fujifilm X-M1 LCD screen also has a Tilting feature where you can change the angle of the screen to make it easier to shoot from waist or over-the-head levels. On the other hand, Fujifilm X-E1 has a fixed type screen which provides less flexibility in shooting positions compared to X-M1.

Both Fujifilm X-E1 and Fujifilm X-M1 have APS-C sized 16.0 MP resolution sensors so sensor size and resolution is not a differentiator between these two cameras.

One other difference between these two cameras that is worth mentioning is that Fujifilm X-M1's sensor doesn't have an anti-alias (Low-Pass) filter. Removing anti-alias filter increases the sharpness and level of detail but at the same time, it increases the chance of moiré occurring in certain scenes.

Below you can see the X-E1 and X-M1 sensor size comparison.

Fujifilm X-E1 and Fujifilm X-M1 have the same sensor sizes so they will provide same level of control over the depth of field when used with same focal length and aperture.

The number of available lenses is a big deciding factor when choosing your interchangeable lens camera. Fujifilm X-E1 and Fujifilm X-M1 have the same Fujifilm X lens mount and currently there are 117 native lenses available for these cameras.

Another important factor is the availability of image stabilization. None of these bodies have sensor based image stabilization so you have to buy lenses with Optical stabilization feature. Currently there are 20 lenses with Image stabilization for Fujifilm X mount.
