I can't afford an X70 as I am saving up for an X-T2, so with cost being taken into consideration, I was wondering about a 2nd hand interchangeable lens body as a backup camera and for use as a kind of pocketable option when mated with 27mm. Both the X-M1 and X-E1 are often on eBay for a good price. I know what the spec differences are, so I am looking for people opinion's on which they would recommend. GGareth.Ig

If you are looking at a new to you camera for your pocket why not the X100 or X100s. Both would be cheaper than a body and compact lens. I'd also have a look at a used Ricoh GR. Iibcj

I would say x-e1 for the viewfinder. I decided to get back to Fuji and just bought an x-e1 for $150 and paired it with the 35mm f2. The body isn't the latest and greatest but $150 for a crop sensor Fuji body is a steal.pszilard

Thread starter Thanks for your reply, but if you read my post, you will see I want an interchangeable lens body! (I already own the 27mm as shown in my signature).pszilard

My XE1 works quite nicely for my needs, YMMV.Diamonddoguk

With brand new XE2 selling for $499, there should be some good prices on used XE2. If you can get one of them you will be happier since focusing and options are more advanced.bacil

My X70 version is X-A1 and 18mm. Very happy so far. Rrobert

hard to go wrong with either...the xm1 has the tillable screen which can be very handy at times...plus it's significantly (to me) smaller than the xe1...not like the xe1 is big though...the tilting screen makes for nice street shooting...i sometimes have a hard time remembering the xm1 has no evf and waste time putting the camera to my eye.pszilard

Before anyone can answer properly you really need to describe what you mean by "pocketable" as it has different meanings to different people. Are you attempting to put it in a shirt pocket, a sport coat pocket or some really large pocket as the two cameras you are describing have very different physical dimensions. While the X-E1 is a great camera, and I currently have one, in no way can it be called pocketable. In length it is a half an inch larger than the T10. Even my X-M1 with the 27mm lens will require a relatively large pocket. I sometimes wear a Wrangler denim jacket which has great oversize inside pockets and can hold either camera but the E1 just sticks out looking like I just stole something big. The M1 and 27mm lens not so much. The M1 will also fit into the gun pouch of my leather motorcycle vest but again it is wider than a gun so sticks out looking like I have some sort of breast issue. Neither camera will fit into any of my other jacket or sport coats pockets. It will also depend on whether or not you can get used to using only the LCD to compose images or require an EVF from time to time. I would highly recommend that if you think that will not be a problem go a few days with only using the LCD on your current camera before you make that decision. When someone talks about pocketable interchangeable lens cameras there are only two that will actually fit into a normal pocket without making you look like you have some gross physical defect or are a thief. The Pentax Q7 and the Panasonic GM-5 neither of which you are asking about. EEyeForget

An E1. However, it might get expensive once you've handled it versus your xt1 and run out and buy an E2ChiDN

That is the lowest price I saw on E-Bay and many were in the 6's. Don't these folks pay attention to what the market is doing? E

There's no shortage of "stupid" end prices on eBay. A few years ago I sold a well worn product for more than Amazon was charging new. Also free shipping with Amazon. I felt bad and offered to not complete the transaction. Just go to Amazon. The buyer wanted mine. Who knows? I recently sold a number of bodies and lenses. One of the bodies went for, to me, an absurdly high price. eBay can be a peculiar market.David Schneider

I bought a second when I thought my XPro2.wouldn't get to me in time for a trip to the Middle East. Turns out it did get to me, but not selling my second XE2. I had bid $750 for a used Fuji 10-24 on eBay and lost it. Two days later the sale was announced and a new 10-24 was only $799. So happy I lost that used that one on eBay. New lens with guarantee for $49 was a no brainier. Last edited: Jun 20, 2016

Reviewers, such as DPReview, have said they did not see enough of a change between the E1 and E2 for users to upgrade and I personally agree with that assessment so getting a good deal on an E1 is a good way to go if it suits your needs. Some E1 users note they like the color from the E1 better than the E2 and DPReview noted the E1 produced better movie quality than the E2 but personally I do not have the E2 to compare. My signature does list the other Fuji bodies that I compare my results from the E1 to.

Click to expand...I am one of those who like the color out of the XE1 better than the XE2 (and I'd say the XPro2 as well). There's some magic in that camera. But when I had both (XE1 got stolen out of my car in my driveway) I used the XE2 as my primary camera because it was just such a better overall camera. Focus on XE1 was often frustrating and XE2 with more Fn buttons (and especially after the firmware upgrade that changed the focusing system) is just a superior camera.

I just spent two weeks in Croatia with these two guys (Me & Mini-me). I couldn't choose between them as the best as backup camera. They both are very good travel companions. I had the 8mm practically glued to the X-M1; so much fun!EyeForget

Click to expand..."The changes probably aren't enough to justify upgrading from an X-E1 but we found the Wi-Fi alone is worth a significant premium over the older model." I would totally dismiss that DPR review. It's typical DPR where gadgetry get's more focus than basic functionality. It's also based on initial firmware. Current firmware has substantially improved the camera. (Something Fuji should keep in mind. No one reviews firmware, they review initial releases and those reviews get set in stone.) I owned an E1 for years. Now shoot an E2. No way I'd ever go back. Better evf, PDAF, separate AF-L and AE-L, faster operation. I also prefer the CMOS I jpegs. But if one is going to shoot JPEG, then one can also tailor the output to their needs with the selection of film types and adjustments then put those into a custom setting. High ISO noise can easily be handled by shooting raw or r+j. You got your E1 for a good price, congrats. I sold mine in January (body only) for $240.

It's tack sharp, color rendering and contrast are great and the fish eye effect is so much fun. I used it almost as much as the 18-55 on my Croatian trip. I

Thread starteraverageguy said: Just out of curiosity how much did you pay ..only in post 13 you said $167 Click to expand...I live in Australia. I paid AUD137 plus postage, which came to AUD152 (I think). So with the current USD/AUD exchange rate it is about USD100 plus postage of about USD11. A very acceptable price, me thinks. (as exchange rate varies, the last time I converted AU137 it came to USD98 excluding postage).
