V632R_81 V Are there any tell signs of when manual gearbox oil is low - I've been told by a few VW indies that its quite normal for the gearbox to seep a little oil, but I'm sure over time those little seeps have added up but not sure. Any ideas? mk5 R 57 Plate - 65k on the clock #1 · Nov 20, 2014 Are there any tell signs of when manual gearbox oil is low - I've been told by a few VW indies that its quite normal for the gearbox to seep a little oil, but I'm sure over time those little seeps have added up but not sure. Also, what oil do I need to top it up? Wondering is it worth just getting an oil change on it? #4 · Nov 21, 2014 Have you done a gearbox oil change if not, best to get oil change won't cost much better to be safe then sorry, its gonna need an oil change sooner or later anyway, should always keep on top when comes to oils & fluids pal. #5 · Nov 21, 2014 The biggest clues to low oil are increased gear noise and difficult shifts. Use the proper VW oil if you're doing a refresh as it's the best available, according to a very exhaustive test done on an American MK5 forum. #6 · Nov 21, 2014 I don't tend to get difficult gear shifts, just a notchy feeling sometimes when shifting from 1st to 2nd, but though that was normal on mk5 manuals, no? I do get a knocking sound sometimes though when in reverse and clutching in and out while moving back, not sure if that is oil related. #7 · Nov 21, 2014 If you mean when giving it some welly when shifting from 1st to 2nd, then yep, that is normal. The manual gearboxes don't like to be hurried and soft engine mounts don't help with the shift quality either. R32s do seem to make a bit of noise from the drivetrain which appears to be normal. My MK4 made all manner of clunks and rattles but nothing was loose or worn beyond tolerance. The FWD MK5s have near silent transmissions. Same gearbox, just the absence of a transfer box, rear diff and extra shafts etc. It's all stuff that can add to the noise count. #8 · Aug 25, 2017 Hi, Anyone know the correct capacity for a mk5 32 gearbox? Stealers told me 2 litres, but I've seen other amounts talked about.. mostly for a mk4. Cant seem to find a correct capacity quoted anywhere.. Ive filled up with 2 litres at the moment, slightly worried that it is underfilled thanks:) #9 · Aug 25, 2017 I thought u just fill it up until it dribbles out of the fill hole no ? #10 · Aug 25, 2017

Manual 2.3 Litres. ;) #11 · Aug 25, 2017 MJVR6 where did you find these figures? spoke to VW and their 'techs' tell me its 2 litres. I asked to see where they found these figures but the girl on the desk said they were not allowed to give that information, ridiculous! The car was level on stands when I replaced the fluid, put finger in the hole after, wasn't very moist... I think its sitting just below the fill port. do you think .3 of a litre will make a big difference? Thanks for the responses. #12 · Aug 25, 2017 I got that info from my guys at VW mate. You sure when you had asked it was deffo for MK5 32 Manual. #13 · Aug 25, 2017 obviously VW my way were just being difficult. grr. well i didn't specify, as they had just completed the ABS/ESC module recall on it. Thought they might have known it was a manual box. I guess ill just put some more fluid in till it seeps out fill port, jobs a gooden. have done around 150 miles with 2 litres in, hopefully no damage done. Insert Quotes Post Reply
