I. Objective:

1. Educational aim: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

• Talk about an excursion.

• Express their regrets.

2. Knowledge:

• General knowledge: Ss learn how to express their regrets about what they did or did

not do during the excursion.

• Language: Sentences and expressions related to the topic.

3. Skill: Expressing information and speaking for details.

II. Method and teaching aids:

• Method: Integrated, mainly communicative.

• Teaching aids: textbook, blackboard, chalk, computer, screen, etc.

Teaching aids: textbook, blackboard, chalk, computer, screen, etc. Teaching steps: Classroom procedures (1’): Greetings and checking attendance. New lesson: (44’) Teacher’s activities Student’s activities Contents WARM – UP: Memorizing Game (5’) - Teacher gives instruction: “First, I would like to divide our class into two teams. I will show you some pictures on the screen. There will be 2 seconds for each picture. You have to remember things on these pictures as much as you can. Then you will take turn to go to the board and write down what things you’ve seen. One person can write more than one answer. You will get one mark for one correct answer. Which team has more correct answer will be the winner”. - Listen to teacher *Suggested answer: - backpack - camera - clothes - coach - compass - drinks - flashlight - food - fruit - hat - luggage - map - medicine - money - raincoat - shampoo - sun-cream - tent - tissue - towel - Teacher checks students’ understanding of instruction. - Reply to teacher. - Give time for students to play the game. - Work in 2 teams. - Check students’ work and give feedback. - Receive scores based on their correct answers. -Lead-in: “All items you’ve written are very necessary when you go on an excursion or camping. Today, we’re going to learn how to talk about an excursion and express the regrets.” - Listen to teacher Unit 11: NATIONAL PARKS Part B: Speaking Page 114 PRE-SPEAKING (12’) - Pre-teach vocabulary: + excursion /ɪkˈskɜːrʒn/ (n) a short journey made for pleasure, especially one that has been organized for a group of people (chuyến tham quan) + consequence /ˈkɒnsɪkwəns/ (n) a result of sth that has happened (hậu quả, kết quả) + food poisoning /fu:d ˈpɔɪzənɪŋ/ (n) an illness of the stomach caused by eating food that contains harmful bacteria (ngộ độc thức ăn) + fine /faɪn/ (n) a sum of money that must be paid as punishment for breaking a law or rule (tiền phạt) + carsick /ˈkɑːrsɪk/ (n) feeling ill or sick because you are travelling in a car (say tàu xe) Task 1: Matching. - Listen to teacher and write down. Vocabulary: + excursion /ɪkˈskɜːrʒn/ (n) chuyến tham quan + consequence /ˈkɒnsɪkwəns/ (n) hậu quả, kết quả + food poisoning /fu:d ˈpɔɪzənɪŋ/ (n) ngộ độc thức ăn + fine /faɪn/ (n) tiền phạt + carsick /ˈkɑːrsɪk/ (n) say tàu xe - Read the requirement and help ss understand some sentences. - Listen to teacher *Suggested answers: 1.f 2.e 3.h 4.g 5.b 6.c 7.a 8.d - Ask ss to work in pairs, read the columns carefully and match the things and the consequences. - Work in pairs - Call on some students to read their answer. - Read their answers. - Give comments and correct answers. - Correct their answers. WHILE-SPEAKING (12’) Task 2: Showing regrets. Task 2: Conditional Sentence Type 3 Eg: - If we hadn’t gone by coach, we wouldn’t have got carsick. - If we had gone by bike, we wouldn’t have got carsick. Form: If + S + had + P.P (V3/ V- ed) , S + would have + P.P (V3/ V-ed) Meaning: unreal condition in the past. A: I heard.., so that. B: If they had (hadn’t).., they would (wouldn’t) have.. - Ask ss to read the requirement of this task in page 115. - Read the task requirement page 115. - Give instruction: You are Nga’s classmates and you are not happy with the excursion. Now, you are talking with some other friends about what you wish you had or had not done. - Listen to teacher. - Ask ss to read the examples in the textbook and recall what grammatical structure is used in the example. - Read examples in the textbook. - Ask ss to give form of Conditional Sentence Type 3 from examples. - Give form of Conditional Sentence Type 3. - Give example conversation to help ss do this task in pairs. - Listen to teacher. - Ask ss to work in pairs and use the ideas in Task 1. - Work in pairs. - Call on some pairs to make conversations. - Listen to their friends. - Give feedbacks. - Listen to teacher. POST-SPEAKING (15’) Task 3: Talk about your class’ excursion to Huong Pagoda. - Example cartoon clip. - Pictures in warm-up game. - Explain requirement of this task on the book page 115. - Ask ss to work in groups of two tables. Remind them that: They can use ideas in task 1 and 2; or create more ideas if they want. They have to use Conditional Sentence Type 3 in their speech to show regrets. They can take note and use it when they speak. - Listen to teacher. - Work in groups of 2 tables. - Show example cartoon clip to help ss clear about what they should do in this task. - Watch example cartoon clip. - Show some pictures in warm-up game to help ss create more ideas. - Look at some pictures. - Invite some groups to practice in front of the class. - Listen to their friends. - Give comments. - Summary main points of this lesson and remind ss to do homework. - Listen to teacher. - Listen to teacher. - Conditional Sentence Type 3. Homework: - Learn by heart all new words. - Prepare for the next lesson: Part C Listening (page 115).
