Hi guys,

I'm looking for some advice on replacement battery for my Mk5 2.0 TDI (if needed!)

Recently the morning start up jiggle for longer(from probably half second to 1-1.5 second) or need a second attempt, it's not every morning but every second or third days it happen.

Battery is the factory Varta so it is nearly 8 years old! Heard that battery usually last 3-4 years so I'm quite surprised with it! Would you recommend I go for the same battery model again? Or there are other better choice? Should I get it from dealer/online shop or somewhere?

I found this DIY replacing battery link so I guess I don't really need to be an expert on this right? (http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=320552)

Cheers~

I admire your optimism.

8yrs and you ask whether or not to go with the same battery again – answered your own question imo. :)

My factory one lasted 4 and a bit years... so its not too bad... I recently replaced mine through "holler for a marshall"... they use Exide batteries which isn't too bad. But you can get those from like k-mart and stuff... I initially thought replacing a battery would be hard.. but after seeing how quickly they do it? probably DIY.

To be honest, they're all roughly the same price... so it doesn't really matter which one you go with... if you're happy with your current one go with them. I only switched because this hollar for a marshall came to me on a Sunday with no extra costs, when my car died... and I couldn't be bothered taking public transport and lugging a battery home.

My Farta died after 3.5 years in the same Golf model. Last time I replaced in with DIN65LMF from:http://www.onlinebatteries.com.au/century-din65lmf-p-133.html

a little old...but i just replaced my battery in the same car

fyi

The TDI has higher battery requirements than a normal Petrol golf hence the century doesn't really suit (you'll be putting extra stress on the battery each time you start the car). Hence the Century, exide (from Kmart) aren't suited.

Supercharge Gold MF66 will do you just fine – I've had one in the Golf for over 3 years now. You do not need to spend more for OEM.
