Sort by Oldest first Oldest first Newest first Most reactions #2 · Oct 19, 2016 id go with 096. if that is the correct type, have a look at a type 100, difference is about 15mm in height, power is the same. #3 · Oct 19, 2016 Just visited a battery site and it lists 096 (E38) for every Golf Diesel 1.6-2.0 from 1991 to 2016 Thats the size I got for my 2007 Mk5 1.9TDI four years ago Just as a tip the Varta Silver has a 5 year warranty and it is usually a good deal cheaper than the equivalent Bosch top of range that many places try to sell you. Especially good since they are the same battery apart from the badge and Varta actually make them for Bosch! I guess the Bosch name is held in higher esteem than that of Varta in the K #4 · Oct 19, 2016 Thanks guys Varta option sounds like a good one. Any particular tips where to buy? Euro and carpart4less seem to be around 90quid Ebay selling Varta for about 72 #5 · Oct 19, 2016

I checked out ECP CP4L Halfords for their best prices (they had offer on at the time) before I hit Ebay sellers. Ended up getting it from an Ebay seller,(cant remember who I'm afraid), free next day delivery and was 12 notes cheaper than anyone else Varta have been making batteries since 1904 and became part of Johnson Controls the worlds biggest automotive battery maker in 2002 currently making around 140 million OEM and aftermarket batteries a year. #6 · Oct 20, 2016 Thanks, I've ordered a Varta 096 e44, which is supposedly 77ah and 780cca for £69 off ebay. Ecp and the rest of them want 90quid with a discount of 30% The current battery is a vw one, it's got a vw part number and the indicator is still green on it, but it seems a bit weak at cranking, so I think this should be a good move to replace it before winter kicks in. Also says 74ah on it, so it might prove better to go with what I've just bought, #7 · Oct 20, 2016

That's the same one I got 5 years ago and I ended up with it in similar circumstances. The battery my car came with (not VW but supplied and fitted by a VW main dealer) had the "green-light" indicator still showing OK but I had managed to flatten the battery a few times during camping trips so it was obliviously loosing significant capacity if not cranking ability and I swapped before winter set in rather than risk it The replacement has been fine over five years no starting problems or let downs whatever the weather #8 · Oct 25, 2016 Battery arrived and fitted Varta 096 e44 I can confirm the "096" size is correct fitment, and matches the oem VW battery that came out of the car for diamentions Old battery was 72ah and 680 or 640cca (cant remember now), new battery is 77ah and 780cca. hope that helps anyone wanting a battery in future and is stuck trying to work out which battery size/code Insert Quotes Post Reply
