nsmeister N OK, so here is my problem... I had to change my battery and when I hooked up the new one, the radio went into safe mode. I have my code and I tried looking around on the internet but I couldn't find which buttons to press and hold before entering it. I tried a few ones, and I guess it registered them as attempts. Now my radio reads "SAFE" and "2" and I'm not sure how to reset it. I just tried unplugging the battery (I only unplugged the +) for about 20mins but that didn't help. The car is a '99 Golf GL MKIII. Thanx in advance. **EDIT I called a guy I know at a local shop and he said the radio might lock up permanently after a few attempts by frying some little piece of hardware or w/e that I would need to have checked out at a VW dealer. Has anyone ever heard about this? Modified by nsmeister at 4:28 PM 1-11-2010 #1 · Jan 12, 2010 OK, so here is my problem... My radio exploded in a similar fashion, but then it stopped working all together. So I removed it and killed it with fire. Basically there's a code unique to your radio you need to put in, then all will be well again. #3 · Jan 12, 2010 Re: Golf Radio in safe mode... something is odd. (nsmeister) IIRC after you have made 2 failed attempts at entering the code you need to leave the radio on for 1 hour, once you have it "unlocked" again hold down the scan and seek button until 1000 appears and then use the preset buttons to change each digit to enter your code and then hold down the scan and seek button again. Im going by memory on the above a quick search on here would probably bring up my accurate and reliable info. #4 · Jan 12, 2010 Re: (Roketdriver) Right. But my problem is that I've already made 2 attempts and now the little lcd screen reads "SAFE 2". This is for a 99 MK3 GL with a factory installed cassette tape radio. Unplugging the battery didnt work. Maybe I should try unplugging both charges. I'm gonna try leaving it on for an hour... that might reset it. Image Image Image **EDIT Thanx for the reply rph2004. I'll try that and I'll let you know how that goes. Modified by nsmeister at 4:47 PM 1-11-2010 #5 · Jan 12, 2010 Re: (nsmeister) I think you get 4 attempts at entering the correct code before it locks you out. To get it to display the "1000" you need to hold down "scan" and "seek". Or whatever combo it is. After it locks you out rph2004 is right, you will need to leave it on for an hour.. Then it unlocks, and you can try another 4 times.. I think its 4 times. #6 · Jan 12, 2010 Re: (Ipath43) Assuming you've got this head unit...: Image ...then here's what you do (from the sound system operating instructions, not the owner's manual): Image Modified by Marek K at 5:57 PM 1-11-2010 #7 · Jan 12, 2010 Be glad yours actually gets power and displays something. I'm not kidding when I say mine internally exploded. #8 · Jan 12, 2010 The only way to get the code is in the owner manual correct? If so, I'm ****ed. Mine is doing the same thing and I never got an owner's manual with my car. #9 · Jan 12, 2010 Re: (suffokate408)

Image #10 · Jan 12, 2010 Re: (rph2004) Thanks, guess I'll head to the dealership tomorrow. Image #11 · Jan 12, 2010 Re: (suffokate408) Yeah you can take out the radio and call the deal with the serial number and your vin number. they tell you the code. If you don't want to wait 1 hours you just unplug the radio and take out the fuse in the back your you're set. That's what I did with no problems #12 · Jan 12, 2010 Re: (effdbmx1) I finally got it to work!! Thanx very much guys =D BTW this is the radio I have (in my 99 MK3 Golf GL). Not a picture from my car obviously... You will have to take it to a dealership, to get it unlocked if you don't have the code. 0 Reply Insert Quotes Post Reply
