If that is so, are their the usual "good"&"bad" comparison's of MIK vs.Mic? Are the one's marked 125th anniversary the best ones of the g5120 series. I'd like to swap for one found on CL. Just don't want to give up too much guitar for guitar..fender cij. Tele-custom (05)....a little help! Thx's ValveFan

They are out of production now but many new ones are still out there. They are worth maybe $500 to $600 used. The stock pups are so-so at best. Lots of players swap them for Gretsch or TV Jones Filtertrons. Beware 1990s vintage Filtertrons. They are not too good either. The current replacement for the G5120 is the G5420 which is made in China. I don't know much about the Anniversary thing. I'd guess the main difference would be the labeling. image removed image removed image removed The pups are GFS surf 90s. Twangerific. P.S. http://www.gretsch-talk.com/ has lots of people who are in the know regarding all things Gretsch. J

Rubber grommets. When I play the guitar acoustically I can hear the strings vibrating behind the bridge. The grommets dampen those odd ringy sounds. I can't really hear it through the amp, but I do play without plugging in sometimes. I've seen some mandolin players do the same thing. F

The "Gretschbuckers" are not well regarded, but a change of tone cap (.047 to .022) wakes things right up. I find the pickups clear and twangy with the volume rolled off and nice and crunchy...leaning toward ES335 land...with the volume cranked. Great all-around pickups, IMO. grandstick

He asked me to come over and try it out after he got it. I took it out of the case - it still had all of the tags on it - and it played like a dream. I put it back in the case and forgot about it. He asked me a couple of months later if I wanted to buy it from him. "Of course!" He had never taken it from the hardshell case. Except for my son, I'm the only person who has played this guitar. I have been keeping a strip of rubber shelf lining laced through the strings between the Bigsby and the bridge.
