Anyway has anyone compared IQ of these two bodies? Specifically interested in landscape shots, so not tracking, focus etc. LilSebastian

The GX9 was a disappointment, as I thought it would be a better camera. I found the movable eye piece strange, but could find a us for it. 9

I know. Intuitive, right? ;) p.s. I moved the thread to Panasonic Cameras. ralf-11

Resolution doesn't mean everything, but it does allow you to pull out some extra detail in PP sometimes. Now, the G9 looks absolutely fantastic, even compared to most of the APS-C mirrorless cams out there. I'm very impressed with the IQ out of that camera. I'd get one if I could afford it ;) ToxicTabasco

I use both GX85 and G9. As for IQ, it would depend mostly on the lens and shooting conditions. For low light both are about the same in performance as in the day. But for long exposures in very low light the G9 has the edge for capturing more color detail and shadow detail. And the resolution of the G9 is more than the GX85. Also, for 4K video the G9 has the advantage of way less rolling shutter. Where the GX85 looks like a FF camera rolling shutter. Also, no crop in for the 4K thus can extract finer details up close in 4K and with telephoto lenses. And at higher ISO 3200 to 4000 for 4K video the higher pixel G9 shows less noise and finer detail in the video clips with same lighting. Nevertheless, both will deliver great photo and video with good exposure and light. With optimal exposure and light the difference may not even be noticeable. The only difference I see is when pushing both cameras to their exposure limits in low light, and using them to shoot long ranges with telephoto lenses. And that's where the ideal lenses will help. ralf-11

I got mine 3 weeks ago , and other than the EVF, esp compared to my GX8 , I love it. - with AWBc setting, pics out of the camera finally just look "right". My GX8 and , to a lesser extent , the G85 always seemed slightly off when the raws came into capture one. With this camera I rarely have to make WB changes to try and fix anything. - The extra 4MP helps when cropping with macro - Tilting EVF makes lower level shots in bright sunshine easier - Love 'My Menu' so no more searching around for my most used items - Love 'min shtr speed' setting so I don't have to worry about motion blur when shooting on the run - Finally have EC in M /w auto iso , tho with the min'm SS setting that's less necessary now - AFF/AFS/AFC switch is nice to have - I also got the extended eyecup and grip so it's much much nicer to hold now It's such a joy to use now that I just throw my P14-140 II on it and take it with me EVERYWHERE , and as a consequence I've been taking a lot more photos of stuff I see while I'm out and about than I've done in a LONG while. upload_2019-3-13_15-30-7.png Subscribe to see EXIF info for this image (if available) MacBook

Does the extended eyecup help for people with eyeglasses? I don't have a problem with the field sequential effect or the size -- assuming the clarity is similar to the GX85 -- but would appreciate a little more eye relief as an eyeglass wearer. Also, relating to another thread earlier this year, is there any problem with firmware updates and stabilization? Thanks for any guidance. CyVan

Unfortunately I don't wear glasses so I can't comment to that. I also read about the stabilization issues with the latest firmware so I've opted to keep mine at v1.0 until a fix is available.. John M Flores

Image quality is more or less the same, maybe a small improvement in low light and a touch more dynamic range, but not enough to reliably pick out the differences in a blind test. I do like the extra megapickles though as it allows me to be a little looser with my framing. With the GX85 I always strove to get the framing in camera spot on because I did not want to throw away the 'pickles. You must log in or register to reply here.
