HEVC video stuttering in high end computer

  • Quote

Postby hacendado » 12 Feb 2018 20:50

Hi, I have issues when playing 4k or 1080p video recorded with a GoPro camera (HEVC codec). First of all, this issue does not happen if I use "media player classic" as installed by CCCP (Combined Community Codec Pack). The video plays perfectly smooth. I have a high-end computer with a Titan X GPU but I'm unable to play video using VLC, both with hardware acceleration on auto (as per default) or on in any setting or off. The video plays the sound but I get just standstill frames or short bursts of video play and then it jams again. Have anyone encountered this issue before and knows the cause and how to fix it? I'm using VLC 3.0 but this also happened on the previous version when I tried it. Top Lotesdelere Cone MasterCone Master Posts: 10529 Joined: 08 Sep 2006 04:39 Location: Europe

Set VLC to use DXVA3 aka D3D11: Tools -> Preferences -> Video Output = D3D11 Tools -> Preferences -> Input/Codecs Hardware accelerated decoding = D3D11 Video Acceleration Then save, exit and restart VLC. Top hacendado New ConeNew Cone Posts: 6 Joined: 12 Feb 2018 20:46

Hello, thanks for your reply but the issue still persists, I've set DX11 both in Video settings and codec settings, to no avail Top hacendado New ConeNew Cone Posts: 6 Joined: 12 Feb 2018 20:46

Please open Tools -> Messages (set Verbosity to 2) before you start the playback, and then paste the full resulting log here or on Pastebin.com if it's too long. Also please upload a short sample of a problematic file to either Zippyshare.com (200 MB max) or to EmbedUpload.com, the latter will upload the file for you to several other hosts (use the default ones) and then post the link to the file here. If needed cut it with DGsplit and read here about how to do it: viewtopic.php?f=14&t=57724&p=193335#p193335 50 MB max should be enough. Hi, here you have the sample file. It plays smoothly on MPC-HC, but it freezes in VLC and only the sound plays. http://www.embedupload.com/?d=9UMZUGEPSR Here is the debug log. I stopped the video near the end when the debug message was repeating.

Also still had stuttering with x265/hevc 4k files using latest 3.0.8 VLC Settings > All settings > Input/Codec > Video Codec > FFmpeg > Threads: setting this from 0 (auto) to 8 fixed it for me... Video Output + Input set to D3D11 Acceleration Cheers, N0rd Top Silentwulf New ConeNew Cone Posts: 1 Joined: 26 Feb 2020 05:17

I had a similar issue for awhile. With DirectX11 encoding on, I found that the problem for me was that my de-interlace setting was set to "On" with Yadif (x2). Setting it to "Automatic", or changing the de-interlacing method (for example, Blend), solved my problem. h.265 videos run like a dream now :D Top User avatar InTheWings DeveloperDeveloper Posts: 1279 Joined: 07 Aug 2013 13:15 VLC version: crashing Operating System: Linux Contact: Contact InTheWings Website

https://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/22732 :!: If you want your problem to be solved : * First read troubleshooting guide VSG:Main * Always provide verbose LOGS ! (command line or from gui) * Always check your issue against a developer build from Nightly Build of VLC * Tell us when your problem is solved ! thank you sir, you are a genius! nothing else solved it for me except your answer! and i have an rtx 2060 super with a ryzen 7 3700x. its weird that you need to dig so deep in the options menu to get something so common like h265 working properly.
