I recently successfully upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 in this HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC laptop. Once it boots up, the PC does fine, but when booting up, I get a black screen for 1 1/2 minutes. I believe it is a video driver issue. I went to HP.com looking for a driver for Windows 10. HP is not providing any drivers for this PC for Windows 10. Does anyone have a solution to this, or will I have to go back to Windows 7? I am afraid that if this video driver isn't compatible for Windows 10, that more problems could result other than long boot up time.
Install the previous 7 driver for that model from the manufacturer's website. My DV7 uses a 7 driver, as the newest one will not show the correct resolution. You may even see if it is still in the machine by:Device manager, select the video, right click, update driver, browse your computer, select from drivers installed on your machine, select older driver.
I don't know when this video driver was updated, as far as I know it wasn't updated with the Windows 10 upgrade. The Driver Date currently installed is 11/4/2015. This version was working fine last week, until I upgraded to Windows 10.

I was surprised to see that this laptop appears to have two different graphics in it. (1) AMD Radeon HD 7400M which does not support Windows 10, and (2) Intel HD Graphics 3000 (HP). On Intel's web site, they have a driver for Windows 10 for the Intel HD Graphics 3000. Would this work? There may be some changes that HP made to their drivers, this one is directly from Intel, not HP.
"DV6" is a series of laptops, so it's not very useful in identifying a specific model. It is not unusual for laptops to use dual graphics. The integrated (Intel) graphics are used for low-performance applications to save power, while the third-party graphics are used for more demanding things (like games). I'm not sure whether special drivers are required to make them function right.Laptops sometimes use customized drivers, so it'd be preferable to get them from HP, if available. The HD 7400M is in legacy status, which means that there are Win 10 drivers for it, but they may never be updated. The ones available from AMD may be worth trying:
Thanks for the link. I downloaded and installed it, which helped just a little. Now at bootup, instead of having a black screen for 1 1/2 minutes, it is 70 seconds of black screen before the splash hits the screen. I have another older and slower HP laptop that I upgraded to Windows 10, and it loads Windows 10 so quick that it only has about a 2 second black screen before loading. I don't understand why this Intel i7 processor is this slow. I must still have a driver issue.
Update on my black screen problem at boot-up: This HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC with Intel i7 processor, has two video cards, as noted on earlier post. I just disabled the Intel HD Graphics 3000 video card in Device Manager. I then rebooted the laptop, and this solved my long black screen and slow bootup. It now takes 14 seconds to get to the logon screen - so the Intel HD Graphics 3000 is the problem. My question is, is it OK to just leave this Intel graphics card disabled? Or should I try to find a driver for it that will work?I found a driver that sounds like it may work, at Intel HD Graphics 3000 (HP)1024MB ATI AMD Radeon HD 7400M Series (HP)
The Intel driver worked. It now takes 11 seconds to boot up to the logon screen.
