I'm wiring up a HSS pickguard with 2 SD Antiquity Surfer single coils and a Suhr Thornbucker+ humbucker. I'm using 1 volume and 1 tone (500k each) and an Oak Grigsby 5 way switch. I came across the attached Bare Knuckle wiring diagram and found a youtube video about using 470k resistors to balance the single coils with the humbucker (1 each from the neck and middle hot position on the switch to B3 (shown as ground) on the switch). I understand that the color code for the Bare Knuckle and SD /Suhr pickups are different. For reference with the Suhr humbucker, I used black=hot, red/white=single coil split and green/bare for ground. In position 1 (full humbucker), it works fine. In position 2, the humbucker screw coil, the middle and neck are on (not what I wanted...I wanted slug coil of the humbucker and the middle pickup). In positions 3-5 it's not switching pickups..neck and middle are always on. I've attached pictures of the wiring I've done. Can anyone help? I'm really frustrated and obviously don't know what I'm doing. zpO6zUt.jpg d4WHO8W.jpg nCpWoGZ.jpg N9wr9N3.jpg Last edited: Oct 14, 2020 M

If not, that terminal needs to be connected back to ground somewhere (like the back of the adjacent pot). (If still not the coil you wanted after that, then you can look at reversing the split, but not yet.) auto_split_gnd.jpg rapaul76

When I did that, I got nothing out of the single coils. Here's a closer look at the wiring on the switch. Stupid question, did I put the switch in backwards (is that possible)? I'll try grounding that terminal again. suD5Pdt.jpg ilo0fLQ.jpg sIHJ5iH.jpg M

Can you try removing those resistors, and ground that terminal again? Get it working first without the resistors, then try the compensation. rapaul76

Can also check them against your meter, you wouldn't be the first to be caught out. 470k.png rapaul76
