HT-22rho-0 is a murine hippocampal neuronal cell line that is highly sensitive to glutamate and is used to study glutamate-induced toxicity in neuronal cells. Neuronal cells derive their ATP almost exclusively through mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation, which is disrupted in HT-22 cells devoid of mtDNA (HT-22 rho-0 cells).
