In general, a rural area or countryside is a geographic area that is located outside towns and cities, where you can enjoy the quietness and peacefulness of nature. People in the countryside usually live in a small town or in the village.

The scenery is a lot different from a normal town. Typical rural areas have a low population density and small settlements. The scattered old-styled cottages lie next to each other. Each one has only 1 to 2 floors with a garden, where people grow various kinds of vegetables. I always love to enjoy the breathtaking landscapes of flowing rivers, paddy fields, abandoned plots, wild trees, shrines,… There aren’t many cars or buses, the streets are clean. The air is fresh and pure. The atmosphere is so calm and tranquil that I can enjoy a slow pace of life.

The majority of villagers live by agricultural jobs. Most people keep a few animals, but mainly they grow crops, vegetables, flowers. Some catch fish in the rivers in the village. Farming is a hard life, as they have to wake up early in the morning and sometimes finish the work after sunset. Sadly, they do not usually earn much. That is the reason why there are more and more people in the village leave their homes early in the morning to work in the factories in towns nearby. In craft villages, lives could be better as the villagers produce and sell unique products themselves.

Even though lives are hard, they are very friendly, hard-working and warm-hearted. Whenever I come to the countryside, they always greet me with enthusiasm and a lot of homemade gifts. A villager knows all the neighbors, which is rarely seen in the modern neighborhood. They are always willing to give you a hand in difficult times. 

Life in the countryside is simple. While working, they talk, chat and sing to forget to hardship. In the afternoon, most of the villagers are at home. Some of them take a nap after lunch; some work in their small gardens, and some visit the small shops in the village. Then, at the end of the day, people get together at the main square and chat about their day while sipping some tea.

They go to bed early as there is not many activities to do in the evening. There is no disco, theater, cinema, shopping mall, youth club, etc. But the children can play in the streets with their neighbor friends. In almost every village, there is a headman who stops quarrels among the villagers and maintains peace in the village. Whenever there is a dispute, the villagers go to the headman for the solution. However, improvements in science, education and economy are changing the outlook of the people in the countryside, which results in the change of this simple lifestyle. 

If you like being surrounded by nature, you will love living in the countryside. The countryside is such a peaceful part of any countries.
