Tanker74 T I'm heading back home from Afghanistan in a few weeks and I don't have a car when I get home. My neighborhood dealer has a new 2014 Wolfsburg DSG for $22,700 with 0.9% financing. It seems like a great value when compared to the prices of other cars in the segment. I'm looking at $27,000 for a MK7 DSG with standard financing. It basically breaks down to almost $100 a month between interest and sales price difference. I obviously haven't driven an MK7 DSG since I've been gone for 12 months but when I'm on the on-ramp and hitting it hard, am I really going to feel the difference between both cars? The 0-60 times are pretty close from what has been published. I realize it's a front wheel drive with limitations and a GTI isn't about pure acceleration but I figures the extra torque and 200lbs of less mass would really shame the MK6. It doesn't sound like that is the case from what I've read. The GTI was a great car last year and that hasn't changed. Once I turn the ignition in the MK7 will I be thankful I paid the extra $4,000 plus interest? I will either put a deposit on the MK6 and pick it up when I get back or buy a MK7 S w/ DSG. I need a car before August 10th and I can't wait for the PP which is a shame? I love the thought of having a GTI but I also think getting a car for $22,700 that I thought was pretty great before I left for Afghanistan is awesome. I'm conflicted and I need to make a decision before a 2014 isn't available at that price point. I'm sure I'll get flack for not wanting a manual but if you've been stuck in traffic at 0530 in the morning before PT for 20 minutes at the gate, you would understand. The worst case scenario is I don't do either and pick up a 2014 GLI Edition 30 for $25,000 and make the three kids and wife happier on road trips. Thanks for the input and opinions, it's passed the time over here to read some of your great comments and opinions about VW's. #1 · Jun 17, 2014 I'm heading back home from Afghanistan in a few weeks and I don't have a car when I get home. Prom performance to looks to features to quality of finish. I went to look a a 2013 MK6 and drove the MK7 right after. It is just so worth the extra money and I would regret not getting the MK7 very soon after for sure. If you can afford it you will be happy you got the new one. Unless the MK6 really becomes unbelievably good deal. #12 · Jun 17, 2014

:what: I said this MONTHS ago and I got verbally pummeled. Show more replies 1 Reply #3 · Jun 17, 2014 Thanks for your input! If I see a few more of those reviews I don't think I'll be left with a choice except to get the MK7 and cough up the additional cash. #4 · Jun 17, 2014 The mk7 is also bigger inside, goes a long way with kids. Way more able and comfortable than the 6. The 6 to me was no different than my mk5. The 7 is worlds apart. Definitely a nice ride, rivals my Volvo s60 in comfort. Which to me is amazing since the last 2 versions were like sitting on slate. Your call though. By the way, thank you for your service. #5 · Jun 17, 2014 This.

0 Reply #6 · Jun 17, 2014 I loved the mk6, loved the mk5 as well. But after a few test drives and a couple trips to the dealer just to sit inside a mk7 and I was sold. And I had every intention of keeping my mk6 #7 · Jun 17, 2014 Agree with everyone here: the MK7 miles ahead of the MK6 in every manner, from road feel to sound insulation and everything in-between. About the only thing better on the 6 is the steering wheel, and that's only a relatively minor quibble in comparison to the rest of the package. #8 · Jun 17, 2014 I'd also like to say thank you for your service. While I would also strongly encourage you to get the mk7, this forum may be slightly bias. The performance #s aside, I also have a family and the increased room inside was a huge reason I went with the gti now. I'd recommend you throw your same post in the mk6 forum to get their thoughts. Also watch as many YouTube vids as you can to help you get that test drive experience. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk #10 · Jun 17, 2014

I did it everyone in MK6 forum other then 1 guy recommended an MK7! :) 0 Reply #9 · Jun 17, 2014 The MK7 is much more refined than the MK6. I've had mine for 1 year now and still happy. It certainly feels more luxurious compared to older models. (I had an MK5 before this one) In terms of performance it is - as others stated- miles ahead. My friend had the same dilemma you did and he went for the MK6. a few months later he tuned it with REVO stage 1. we raced and i slightly beat him while I'm completely stock i even start pulling at top end! he then added an intercooler, intake, downpipe and REVO stage 2. We raced again (with my current setup with and without Water Meth) in both times i give him 2-3 cars and keep pulling away if the road was longer :D our top end performance is much MUCH better don't make a decision you will regret  #11 · Jun 17, 2014 To answer your question: Yes, the Mark VII really IS that impressive compared to the Mark VI. I've driven both, bought a Mark VII Here's why. I, like you, was torn between the two: a heavily discounted 2014 or a brand new 2015 (with no financing incentives) In terms of driving, while the power (on paper) doesn't seem like much of an improvement, the extra torque is quite amazing and this car is much more engaging and fun to drive than the previous gen GTI. You also have the added benefit of a new chassis. The ride quality and quietness is vastly superior to the 2014, which exhibited more road noise and was a bit more harsh while cruising. While both generations are quality vehicles, great engines, finishes and quality of parts, the Mark VII truly is that much better. The ONLY downside is cost and I'll tell you this much.....after a few drives and the intense joy you will feel while driving this vehicle...you won't care about the cost. Trust me #14 · Jun 17, 2014 Great posts and opinions! As I expected, you guys gave me the exact feedback I was looking for! I have no choice in the matter, I'm going to do an MK7 S with the manual to save a little cash and get the extra room, sound proofing, and power. I've gone from conflicted to 100% sure and that helps a lot! Hopefully Colorado Springs will have a decent selection in a few weeks and I'll get to choose a decent color. Thanks again for all your advice, I look forward to years of owning a VW again. I still miss my G60 and the Eurosport exhaust putting out harmonious tunes. #15 · Jun 17, 2014 I went chasing after a MKVI GTi convertible today down the A39.....and I only have the 150HP 1.4 TSi motor in my MKVII....and all season tires on Perth wheels. Something about this car brings out the lead foot in me. #17 · Aug 26, 2021 The thread is indeed 7 years old  Insert Quotes Post Reply
