Joined Jan 27, 2011 Posts 132 Location Gap, PA Trying to decide between the two. I am playing through a Tweed 59 Bassman. Your opinions will be very much appreciated.

Joined Oct 2, 2007 Posts 1,992 Location Four Corners USA Either is OK, but IMHO a better choice for a tweed Bassman is the Tung-Sol reissue 5881 or a JAN 6L6WGB.

Joined May 14, 2003 Posts 1,192 Location Iowa I really like the short bottle TAD 6L6WGC in tweed amps. Mine have proven to be more rugged than Tung Sol reissue 5881 in the same amp.

Joined Nov 28, 2010 Posts 58 Location left coast I've taken the advice of someone a lot smarter than me, and have used tung-sol 5881 in my 1959 bassman (a real one, not reissue). I am very happy with the results, they don't cost very much, give them a try.

Joined Jan 6, 2011 Posts 2,044 Location NC The JJ will be louder, cleaner, with tighter bass and have a brighter top end. The Tung Sol will break up sooner, have a softer bass, will compress earlier and won't be as bright on the top end.

I've had very good luck with them in 6L6-spec tweeds & browns. I actually like the NOS 5881s better, but for day to day the reissues are a really fine sounding tube. JAN 6L6WGBs work great in them as well. You must log in or register to reply here.
