The LG OLED evo G2 is the successor of the G1 and features an additional heat sink. This provides even more brightness and shows its full potential especially at HDRHigh Dynamic Range – image/video with more dynamic range (contrast range) content. Excellent viewing angle stability and the included wall mount round off the feature list further. Due to the low installation depth, the photo frame TV was ideally suited for local wall mounting.

Unlike most other TVs from LG’s portfolio, the OLED evo G1 features the so-called Gallery Design. Compared to its successor, it actually makes this one even a bit slimmer. The Evo panel ensures a high picture performance and lets this truly slim TV compete with the top OLEDs. The skinny shape makes the device – which is intended for wall mounting – look extraordinarily understated when it is hooked up.

Both Gallery models are on the same level in terms of reflection behavior in our comparison of the LG OLED evo G2 vs LG OLED evo G1 and thus do not show any clear differences. However, it is noticeable that both TVs – due to the anti-reflective coating – emit a slight pinkish cast in bright lights.
However, the G2 benefits from its higher maximum brightness and can slightly outperform the G1 especially at HDRHigh Dynamic Range – image/video with more dynamic range (contrast range) content at high ambient light. Nevertheless, top models with backlight still retain their supremacy and are ahead due to their better brightness values and a comparatively high reflection resistance.

Image stability at its best
The Evo panel operating in both models performs excellently here and does a great job even in strong oblique viewing. Colors are reproduced superbly and the screen remains pleasantly bright.
In this respect, the Gallery models in our direct comparison of LG OLED evo G2 vs LG OLED evo G1 do not give each other an advantage at all. LCDLCD = Liquid Crystal Display – a type of screen using liquid crystals for creating the image LED TVs can only keep up insufficiently well in this category.

Plenty of contrast on both panels
Standard Dynamic Range reproduction is performed to a consistently high quality standard on both sides in our head-to-head comparison of the LG OLED evo G2 vs LG OLED evo G1 and come away with no weaknesses. If we look at the power consumption, the G2 is a step ahead.

Since HDRHigh Dynamic Range – image/video with more dynamic range (contrast range) content is displayed even brighter, the G2 can take a few points away from the slightly darker G1 here and place itself at the top in this section in our comparison of LG OLED evo G2 vs LG OLED evo G1.
In terms of average energy consumption, the difference is still in favor of the 2022 model compared to the playback of SDRStandard Dynamic Range – image/video with a conventional gamma curve (opposite: HDR) – “normal” videos content, but clearly smaller.

Black levels that can't be beaten
In terms of picture performance, both TVs are more than suitable for regular streaming. When it comes to sound, things are a bit different. A multi-channel output with 4.2, DTSMulti-channel-sound-system (Surround Sound) competing with Dolby Digital and Dolby AtmosObject-based surround sound format with 3D-Sound from any direction is hidden in each case.
Should that turn out to be a problem, you can add a soundbar to your setup via the eARC port for better audio performance. Depending on your type of use, such an upgrade could be a good idea.

There is no need to worry about gaming in our direct comparison between the LG OLED evo G2 and the LG OLED evo G1. LG brings both Gallery models into the arena with a long list of features. However, one important difference remains alongside the variety of features – namely the HDMI bandwidth.
The G1 only has a bandwidth of 40 Gbps. However, this applies only to a color depthThe color depth is measured in Bit. 8 Bit stands for 2 different values for each color channel, for TVs those are red, green and blue. By combining the 3 rgb channels 2*2*2=16.777.216 colors are possible. HDR10 or the dynamic HDR formats work with 10 or even 12 Bit. of 12 bit with full sampling rate and 4K@120Hz.

Together with the refresh rateHertz is the derived SI-unit of frequency with 1Hz=1/s – When talking about TVs this means how many different pictures a TV can display in one second. of 120 hertz, the fast response time leads to consistently sharp scenes. These performance indicators are supported by a clean display of large color areas across the entire screen.
Our comparison between the LG OLED evo G2 vs the LG OLED evo G1 shows the best possible setup for sports fans who prioritize picture quality and clarity.

Although the G1 in our comparison has basically all the features you need in a modern Smart TV, the G2 can expand this package in some places due to the current webOS 22 software update.
The in-house OS update now offers the possibility to create several individualized user profiles. Thanks to LG’s Hands Free Voice Control feature, you can now directly control one of several voice assistants without a remote control. ThinQ AI, Alexa and Google Assistant are available.
As our comparison of the LG OLED evo G2 vs LG OLED evo G1 shows, the Gallery Mode turns your flat-screen TV into a real work of art that fits into your interior in a great way and does not look like a conventional television anymore, at least not at first glance.

Both TVs are definitely something for design-conscious heads, who do not want to do without top picture quality and a wide range of features at the same time. The included, practically invisible wall mounts ensure a high wall flushness and let the OLEDs hang quite inconspicuously on the wall thanks to the flat design.
If you already own the G1, the step to the G2 is hardly worth it and is rather something for technology fans who regularly place high value on the latest products and state of the art tech. Although both TVs have a high brightness for OLEDs, the current model from the 2022 lineup performs a bit better due to the additional heat dissipation.
However, for consumers who often use their TVs during the day, are strongly affected by bright spots, and have generally a bright living space, the G2’s better brightness performance could be a weighty argument for buying overall. Nevertheless, both TVs are at a very high level.
