There is very little left for LG to launch its new bets for 2022, with the television LG OLED G2 as the main exponent. A model that boasts Brightness Booster technology to avoid screen burn-in. But, Is there so much difference compared to the LG OLED G1?
To answer this question, we have prepared a comparison of specifications in which we put the LG OLED G2 vs LG OLED G1 so you can see what the main differences between the two models are and see if it’s worth making the leap to the new model from the Seoul-based manufacturer.

LG OLED G2 vs. LG OLED G1: Design

When something works, don’t touch it. AND LG knows that its 2021 flagship boasted an exquisite design, so you will not find big differences in terms of design compared to the new model. Although we do notice a first notable difference: the available diagonals.
More than anything because, while the LG OLED G1 was offered in diagonals of 55.65 and 77 inches, the LG OLED G2 surprises by having two new 83-inch and 97-inch sizes that will allow you to set up a real home theater in the most comfortable way and without needing a projector.
Continuing with this comparison of the LG OLED G2 vs LG OLED G1, we see that it still has the same format to hang it on the wall, offering a thinner product. We do not know if the Brightness Booster panel that integrates the G2 could increase its size, but the firm says that it will be only 2 cm thick.
The overall depth of both models appears to remain the same, although the G2 will lose the 45-degree beveled edges of the G1 in favor of cleaner right angles. Of course, the front frame (which was 0.9 mm for the LG G1) has been significantly reduced to offer a minimalist look by reaching 0.6 mm in the 65-inch model and up, in addition to having finished in carbon fiber to reduce its weight compared to the LG OLED G1, so it will be more comfortable to hang it on the wall since, like the previous model, It will only come with a flush mount wall mount in the box.
LG OLED G2 vs LG OLED G1: Technical characteristics

In terms of processing power, the LG OLED G2 will shine when compared to its predecessor. In our review of the LG OLED G1 it became clear to us that the work done by the Seoul-based manufacturer was simply impeccable. But the new model comes with a more powerful processor and improved AI to offer the best experience. Full HDMI 2.1 ports cannot be missing to offer 4K at 120Hz and VRR and ALLM support, as well as support for the main HDR standards, including HDR10 and Dolby Vision.
Note that the manufacturer has updated its silicon heart with a new Gen 5 processor that promises better scaling, in addition to using machine learning technology to detect and enhance individual objects, ensuring that they are correctly distinguished on the screen. It is also important to say that this new processor has the new Dynamic Tone Mapping Pro algorithm capable of dividing the screen into smaller areas for greater granularity.
At the moment it seems that the first units will not arrive with the expected OLED.EX panel that promises an improvement in brightness of up to 30% (according to our calculations, 10% compared to an EVO panel), but it is still a notable improvement.
In terms of image quality, it’s still too early to make a difference, but you do have to remember that the LG-OLED G2 Debuts Brightness Booster Technologya heat sink located on the back of the TV that helps cool the system for better performance.
With a more efficient dissipation system, brightness can be used more safely and at higher levels without danger of pixel burnout.
LG OLED G2 vs LG OLED G1: sound

Regarding the sound, on paper we have a very interesting novelty. The new AI Sound Pro technology capable of creating 7.1.2 virtual channels of sound, while the LG G1 offered 5.1.2 channels. Interestingly, many users were disappointed with the soundscape of the LG G1, which was inferior to that of the LG OLED C1. So fingers will have to be crossed for this LG OLED G2 to make the leap it deserves in terms of sound quality. We do not know the speakers it will have, although the previous model offered a power of 60W.
LG OLED G2 vs. LG OLED G1: price

We close this comparison talking about the price of the LG OLED G2 which, at the moment, is a mystery. We will have to wait for LG to officially announce what its next flagship will cost, but we can assume that it will have a starting price similar to that of its predecessor.
- LG G1 55 inches: 2,400 euros
- LG G1 65 inches: 3,500 euros
- LG G1 77 inches: 6,500 euros
The issue here is whether it will be worth the jump. And in this comparison between the LG OLED G2 and the LG OLED G1 we see an even more minimalist design (especially due to weight reduction and front bezels of only 0.6 mm), an improvement in brightness (thanks to the Brightness panel Booster, since the OLED.EX is a mystery) and a sound with the new AI Sound Pro technology capable of creating 7.1.2 virtual sound channels… Do you think the changes are enough?
