The rubber scroll wheel, on the other hand, is less than great, and I could see and feel a seam running horizontally across it. Additionally, the wheel made a soft noise with every scroll, and that noise got extra loud when I was scrolling quickly. I’d like a more premium, detailed wheel for a $130 mouse.

A new G303 in town

Did Logitech need a new G303? Kind of. Wireless mice are more reliable than they were when the G303 first came out, so it’s fitting for Logitech to shake things up and cut the cord on the new edition. It does wireless well by delivering a reliable connection alongside a longer battery claim life than other premium wireless gaming mice, partially by foregoing RGB. Some would expect at least an RGB logo for $130, but it’s hardly a necessity.

More necessary is a comfortable gaming mouse that nearly becomes one with your hand. The G303 Shroud Edition is wide and pointy, and its hump is a bit north of where it should be. This makes the mouse uncomfortable for small-to-medium hands like mine. The mouse is more suitable for larger hands, especially if you’re a fingertip or claw gripper. But the pointy edges could still rub you the wrong way.

The G303 Shroud Edition has the solid wireless connection and generous programmability you need. And despite its gaming roots, it has a grown-up look with a matte, plastic feel to it that avoids getting clammy. But it’s a little rough around the edges for a broad recommendation.
