Long Island Community Hospital and NYU Langone Health Officially Affiliate

Long Island Community Hospital and NYU Langone Health today announced that the affiliation between the two organizations, previously announced last summer, is official, having received state and federal regulatory approvals. NYU Langone Health System is now the active parent of Long Island Community Hospital, creating a clinically integrated healthcare network between the two organizations.

This affiliation further extends NYU Langone’s healthcare network into eastern Long Island and expands the resources, technologies, and capabilities of a world-class academic medical center to the more than 400,000 patients served by the Patchogue-based Long Island Community Hospital.

“Long Island Community Hospital is a valuable addition to NYU Langone Health’s network on Long Island and will play an integral role in expanding the breadth and depth of our healthcare services to Long Islanders,” said Joseph Greco, MD, Senior Vice President and Chief of Hospital Operations at NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island. “Together, we are committed to delivering world-class medical capabilities to all corners of the island, providing the highest-quality patient care to meet the needs of our communities.”

The affiliation will enable the transformation of Long Island Community Hospital’s facilities, technologies, and processes to help catapult the hospital into becoming the dominant healthcare provider in Suffolk County, with unparalleled quality, efficiency, and access to world-class care. Richard T. Margulis, President and CEO of Long Island Community Hospital, will continue to lead the organization. NYU Langone has significant experience and success in transitions with multiple hospitals, including the most recent at NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island. Since that affiliation, the Nassau-based hospital has improved patient length of stay, a clinical metric that points to the quality and efficiency of patient care, and reduced the ratio of observed over expected stays.

“Long Island Community Hospital is entering a new era through our affiliation with this highly respected health system, NYU Langone Health, and we are committed to strengthening our services to optimize patient care,” noted Margulis. “Our partnership with NYU Langone brings remarkable resources and new technologies to our organization that will take our capabilities and quality of care to new levels.”

NYU Langone Health, which is consistently ranked among the top hospital systems in the country, has six inpatient locations and more than 300 ambulatory sites throughout the New York-metro region and Long Island, with more than 150 practices in Queens and on Long Island.

Long Island Community Hospital provides more than 400,000 area residents with a range of quality services through its inpatient facility, Ambulatory Surgical Pavilion, and Knapp Cardiac Care Center, along with services provided through two outpatient wound care centers, hemodialysis facilities, home care, and through primary care physician locations throughout the surrounding area.
