I hit a piece of retread and it cracked out a section of mine. I already have a new one from Impex ready to be installed. #3 · Aug 16, 2004 Re: Lower center grill removal (NiagaraJCS) you will have to remove the front bumper to install the center grill! #4 · Aug 16, 2004 Re: Lower center grill removal (power_mind) that is correct the bumper has to come off i'm afrade to say..... Image #5 · Oct 1, 2004 Re: Lower center grill removal (helfinger) I as well hit a retread in the road and need to replace my center bumper grill. I am looking at the replacement and I don't really see how it clips in. There are are 6 tabs along both the top and bottom of the grill but I don't see how they are secured. Any body care to explain? Thanks in advance Jeremy #6 · Oct 1, 2004 Re: Lower center grill removal (helfinger)

this is not true at all. all you need to do is pull forward on the grill at the edges. how do i know you say? i replaced mine already and took it off twice without taking the bumper off. there are 12 tabs on the back off the grill that have 12 c-shaped clips that go over those tabs, then those clips slide into 12 individual holes that go around the edge of the opening. #7 · Oct 1, 2004 when i painted mine i took the bumper off to do so in retrospect.... it might have been possible to tug on the grille really hard - however doign so woudl be basically snapping the c clips off by force i would imagine this would be ok, but i felt a little safer spending the 10 minutes to unscrew the bumper and do it a little more subtlely #8 · Oct 1, 2004 Re: (jhu_vdub) Pulled mine off also without taking off front bumper. I didn't have to pull very hard and new one clipped back in just fine. I basically didn't know any better. Maybe I just got lucky. Image #9 · Oct 1, 2004 Re: (steelhead) I may try to change mine as well then. #10 · Oct 6, 2004 Re: (j-dub) Looking for a bit more explanation on how the center grill is held in the bumper. I see the twelve tabs, but they are flat. How do they catch? Are the c clips attached to the bumper cover or do they came off when the center grill is removed? Modified by j-dub at 5:55 PM 10-6-2004 #11 · Oct 6, 2004 Re: (j-dub) i first posted this info here, go to the bottom of the first post for the pics and info. then scroll down to my other replies for more info about removing and painting the grills btw: i popped my center grill out w/o removing the bumper first, and i collected the clips. i left all the grills out until later when i removed my bumper for the joey-mod, then put the center grill back in before re-attaching the bumper. ========================= +_+MORE INFO +_+ ========================= when you take out the center grill, it has 6 tabs on the top and 6 on the bottom that go into holes on the bumper when those tabs are through the bumper-holes, there is a little bit of plastic sticking through the back side. the metal 'V' clips hold the tabs in... like this \|/ the open end of the 'V' clip pushes towards the back side of the bumper, so the tab is wedged in i pulled my center grill out before removing the bumper. then found i could only reattach the clips from the back side of the bumper, so i took off the bumper (to do the joey mod) and reattached the center-grill while accessible Modified by gabedibble at 3:06 PM 10-6-2004 #12 · Oct 6, 2004 Re: (gabedibble) Thanks, I think I understand. I wonder how the people above were able to do it without removing the bumper? #13 · Oct 7, 2004 Re: (j-dub) someone told me it was possible to do w/ the bumper on, but no one ever said how. i honestly doubt you could Secure the lower center grill w/o removing the bumper. someone above suggested just pushing the tabs back into the bumper -- but the problem is the clips are not wedged on the tabs (and somehow, maybe if a pelican hit your grill) it could come out Insert Quotes Post Reply
