MISSION OBJECTIVES

For Subsistence missions, Snake must deploy immediately without any Sortie Prep. That means the only items that Snake has is the Bionic arm, olive camouflage, and Fultons. All weapons and items must be procured directly from the area of operations. Also, the enemies are more alert and Reflex Mode is deactivated.

The S-Rank strategy from Mission 4 also applies for Subsistence. If you disabled the Anti-Air Radar at the Eastern Communications Post then do the following:

• Choose the Eastern Communications Post as the landing site
• When the chopper gets near the ECP, equip the chopper minigun and shoot all three satellite dishes at the outpost
• If done correctly, all three satellites will be blown up and you can leave the hot zone in under 2 minutes and get the S-Rank without even stepping foot on the ground

When you begin the mission you are dropped just outside a small outpost. This is useful, as you have no equipment, and there are two guards here begging to give their weapons to you.

This won't be much, but a gun is a gun. Now that you have it, head towards the communications post. Remember, not only is it day time, but the enemy are more alert than usual, so be extra cautious. Also, there will be two patrolling soldiers on the road as you head towards the communications post, so watch out for them.

Once you reach the communication post, take some time to scan as many soldiers as you can so you will have their locations. Since you don't have reflex mode, it's crucial to know exactly where every soldier is. Once you feel confident, it's time to move in for an objective.

Watch out! If this mission devolves into a firefight, it's possible for the enemies to call in a helicopter. If this happens, the only way you can quickly take it down is to take one of the launchers the enemies are carrying!

Destroy the comms equipment at the Eastern Communications Post

You likely remember this from the first time around. The comms equipment is in a building in the center of camp. Before taking it out though, consider your options and escape route. You can just shoot it, but the entire camp will suddenly be after you. We suggest sneaking around the camp and slowly grabbing and killing as many enemies as you can. If you can clear the entire camp then there will be no worry about being seen as you destroy the equipment.

Optional Objectives

OBJECTIVE: Secure the rough diamonds hidden near the Eastern Communications Post

The large rough diamond is located all the way above the ECP. Approach from the south (you'll find two wolves guarding the way) to find a path that leads above the ECP.

To reach the diamond, walk up the rock and then use a dive move to leap higher towards the diamond.

OBJECTIVE: Destroy the transmitter at the ECP

To achieve this objective, you'll need to blow up the main comms equipment inside the building next to the Anti-Air Radar. Make sure the coast is clear especially on Subsistence Mode!

OBJECTIVE: Extract the 2 prisoners from Da Wialo Village

The two prisoners are being held within a few feet of each other on the southern-most shed. Each prisoner has one guard watching over him, so you'll need to lure them out.

By this point, you should have the Wormhole Fulton, so clear out the guard near each prisoner and then Wormhole them out.

OBJECTIVE: Extract the materials container from the ECP

There are two containers at the ECP. You only need to extract ONE of them to complete the objective.

POST-MISSION UPDATE

After the mission, Ocelot will call Snake to return to Mother Base. This triggers a one-time-only cutscene of Emmerich revealing the newly-finished Battle Gear weapon.
