I'm new to cars but I'm trying to learn and work on them myself so sorry for the long winded post. If it's not allowed I understand. Anyway I just bought a 2014 BMW 328i n26 a little while ago and I just got my very first issue. I was wondering if it might be battery related. I noticed that when I start my car for the first time in the morning it idles at 1000-1100rpm until the oil heats up. If I immediately try to drive it acts like it's about to turn off but the issue goes away when the oil heats up. The oil just got replaced and is all new as is the filter. I decided to run a scan despite no lights being on and I'm getting codes left and right that I was not getting before and when I clear them different ones show up. Some I know are issues that aren't even effecting the car. Here is the current list: CAAC01, 801C20, D014F6, D016E1, D90D11, B7F668, B7F874, E1C447, E7146F and 801C20 seems to be the one that remains consistent though all of them. So I was wondering if it could be my battery or maybe I need a new FEM? I tested that battery and it's at 12.25v and when I start it it drops to about 10.8v and jumps back to 12.25 until the car charges it to 14+. It's the same 6 year old battery I believe. "Edit: something new I've noticed is when I'm driving below 30mph it seems to act like it's down shifting at an incorrect time. I'll be driving and suddenly feel like the car was out in reverse for a second. It just tries to slow way down and then catches back up.

If you are confident its 6 years old, it might be time to replace it as preventative mainteance. Or at a minmum, have it tested. Dropping to 10.8v cranking is probably too low. Note, you need to code a new battery.

How would I go about registering the new battery?

Where would the date be located on the battery? BMW says it should be between 12.4 and 12.6 while ignition is on but mine is 12.25. I really don't want to spend the money on a new FEM if that is the issue. The most consistent code is about ZGM: central fault memory full. It wouldn't be as bad if I could buy the part and change it but apparently it requires a lot of coding and I don't have the device to do it haha.

Not sure about OEM BMW batteries if original, but every battery i have ever purchased has a date code on it (sticker or similar) with month and year.

When the fault memory is full you need to clear it, with an OBD diagnostic and repair tool. You can't do much more than change oil and wipers on a BMW without one. Some have the ability to code a new battery, which can pay for the unit. Stealerships will charge $150-$200 to do it, which is robbery, it only takes five minutes.

I have a bluetooth one. Veepeak obd scanner. I use it with bimmercode would that work? What app do you use to clear the memory? My app Car Scanner only gives an option to clear codes and the code pops up right after. Bimmerlink refuses to work even though bimmercode works perfectly. It's also on the list of supported scanners. I'm sure it's already saved me a ton of money since I was able to add a few features that my car was missing for some reason haha. BMW is the worst I've seen so far. Probably doing the back breaks myself. I fear what the bill would be from them. I also need to wheels because the lady that owned it curb rashed them.

I can't recall for certain, but i thought the MHD app allowed you to read/clear codes without purchasing anything. I have purchased everything, so i have no way of testing now lol, but worth a shot if other things are not working.

It won't read faults or clear them, it can't register batteries. I have a Foxwell NT 510 OBD tool, which reads and clears faults and will register batteries. I also have Bimmer-tool Lite, which will read and clear DME faults that the Foxwell won't.

They don't seem to have anything for n26 and It keeps asking me for a device. I do t think it works with the one I have :/ I might try bimmer-link.

I'll give bimmer-tool a try. If it doesn't clear the memory I might need a ista+. I saw videos where people were clearing full memory with it. Hopefully I won't need it. I'll have to try the app and report back. Hopefully it works.

Oh yeah, don't think you can use a generic OBD2 adapter for MHD; you need the special WiFi adpater, bimmergeeks cable, or similar.

SaifaFox New Member SaifaFox's Avatar United_States 6Rep 10Posts Drives: BMW 328i xDrive F30 Join Date: Aug 2020 Location: New York iTrader: (0) Ive linked a few screenshots from Bimmerlink. Finally got it working. With it i did manage to get a code regarding the battery so that's what I'm hoping it is. But its been driving really weird today so i feel like its more than just the battery. I did a live diagnostic of a few things to hopefully narrow it down but I'm new to this so I'm unsure of what i need to look for so ill include a link to a report in excel/google sheets to have you guys take a look. I am going to schedule an appointment with an indie shop and see what they have to say if i cant find a solution. I'm going to get the diff and trans fluids changed so ill just have them run a diagnostic too. https://drive.google.com/file/d/190g...ew?usp=sharing https://imgur. com/gallery/6pldczt
