The name of the newspaper sounds like «Nyan Zan», and in translation into English means «People». The first issue of «Nhân Dân» was published on March 11, 1951, replacing the newspaper «Sự Thật» (Pravda), which was published in the 1940s. The new edition was supposed to be more national, official and less propagandistic. «Nhân Dân» has effectively become the country's official state newspaper. At various times, many famous figures of the Communist Party of Vietnam, cultural figures, scientists, artists, and writers worked and published in this newspaper. The newspaper went through a difficult path of formation, survived two wars and a period of financial crisis, a change in political and economic course.
