Sandor203 Ok so I'm about to start doing some mods on my gti and before they go on I just wanted to mess around with it to see how important the stupid, cheap little mods that I have done already were and boy was I in for a surprise. After removing the noise pipe plug that I had in for almost 6 months I found a noticeable decrease in high end power and low end torque. The engine does sound better inside the car without it in, but outside sounds exactly the same. So basically my point is to anyone who wants a good cheap thrill do the noise pipe delete, you wont be disappointed. #1 · May 24, 2011 Ok so I'm about to start doing some mods on my gti and before they go on I just wanted to mess around with it to see how important the stupid, cheap little mods that I have done already were and boy was I in for a surprise. easy, go to a hardware store/ auto parts store and buy a 1"-1 1/4" expansion plug. when put the plug in make sure you push it all the way in and tighten it as much as possible, then re-attach the rubber hose that you removed to insert the plug, so that the plug doesn't have anywhere to go easily. if you do not do this, you are going to end up with a big dent in the middle of your hood. #4 · May 25, 2011

Your 2011 had a noise pipe? #5 · May 25, 2011 (Edited) You can buy the Tiguan pipe and not worry about the plug... But it sort of pisses on the idea of 'cheap', $100 pipe. VW Part No. 1K0-145-770-N #6 · May 25, 2011 I did the Tiguan pipe method. No way I was risking a plug blowing and denting my hood... #7 · May 26, 2011

*Facepalm* #11 · May 26, 2011 You do not even have to put in the rubber hose that you took out to cover the plug. Just make sure the plug is tightened down all the way but not so much that you crack the plastic pipe. Should stay in because I know people that have had the plug in for over two years running stage 2+ and they have had no problems from the extra boost or anything. #12 · May 26, 2011 I thought the Noise Pipe is supposed to make the engine sound "better" inside the car and that was the whole point of it being there on the 2010 models? So you noticed a DECREASE in high end power and low end torque? I am far from being that knowledgeable about auto mechanics (unfortunately) but I didn't think the deletion of the noise pipe in the 2011 GTIs affected engine performance ??? #13 · May 26, 2011 The noise pipe was created b/c the sound inside the cabin was too quiet for the 'sporty' GTI. After 1 year they realized they were wrong, the noise pipe was dumb and discontinued it for 2011. As far as the original poster, I think he said it backwards.. There is a increase. I dont know how the 2010 w the noise pipe compare to the 2011 performance wise. Most mods like this are very minimal and exaggerated. #14 · May 26, 2011 Noise pipes came on all MKV's as well. Very dumb idea. If you want it to sound sportier in the cabin, put a better exhaust on it. Dont waste my boost by pumping it into the firewall... #15 · May 26, 2011 I have the BSH throttle body pipe and it actually deletes the noise pipe all together :) Double Win! #16 · Jun 2, 2013

Just spent the 10 mins to delete mine, read that the 1 3/8 expansion plug is more snug and much less likely to blow, used the threadlock too as a added precaution. Took it for a test drive, got on it to make sure there would be no surprises on the way to work tomorrow. If there is a slight performance gain that's cool but the muted engine noise in the cabin is completely worth it to me. #17 · Jun 3, 2013

Necro Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 4 Beta #18 · Feb 17, 2016 I ended up buying the part (1k0145770k) from my local vw dealer ($160-170 plus tax) for my 2008 GLI (FSI engine). I was a little skeptic that this mod or fix would do anything except clear clutter and reduce noise. I was wrong, the throttle response is absolutely better with faster and more responsive feel. Probably not anymore total power but you get it faster, so it's faster. It's a B to get the old pipe out cause it's got the big Y junction. I was able to sneak it by but you'd might want to remove the fans first. I was also able to lift up the rain tray and sneak the actual sound speaker out from behind the fire wall. Long ratchet extensions, long needle-nose pliers, torx heads, and a ton of patience are a must for this project. Insert Quotes Post Reply
