Hello, What do the abbreviations "PCH" and "CPU" mean with regards to the PCIe slots? I can't find anything that says. "CPU" slot is the one type is pre-populated with the Thunderbolt card. Are there any notable differences other than width? As I am not interested in using Thunderbolt, can I use the "CPU" slot for any approved expansion card? Also is there anything Regards. PCH is the Platform Controller Hub, it replaces the Northbridge and Southbride chipsets with a single chipset, sometimes included on the CPU die package adjacent to the CPU. The CPU labelled PCIe has the PCIe lanes connected directly to the CPU, the PCH PCIe lanes connect to the hub, and the hub then handles communications between the PCIe device(s) and the CPU. The PCIe connector labelled “CPU” is typically used for higher bandwidth intensive, low latency peripherals. If you are not going to use the Thunderbolt card, you can remove it and drop in any QNAP compatible PCIe card. RAID is not a Back-up!
