PLEASE use MPC-BE instead of MPC-HC! Development on MPC-HC has stopped 7 years ago.

Hi,MPC-HC crashes on windows 11 when playing a stream. I had enough of these crashes, so i started looking for an alternative. I found MPC-BE. When playing a stream on MPC-BE and the stream stops, the player simply enters pause-mode instead of crashing.On Sourceforge, i noticed that development on MPC-HC has stopped 7 years ago. On Github, it's at least 4 years. This is why i advice to switch to MPC-BE. MPC-BE is in active development and regularly has new releases. Functionality and menus are identical to MPC-HC, so switching to MPC-BE should be painless.Thank you,RichardGhost_BusterPosts : 5Join date : 2021-11-30

Thank you. I overlooked that one. I did look on github, like i wrote, but missed that.    I do see however that last week there were only 2 fixes: the hang when pausing a stream (that one was also annoying) and using the cached filter state when updating player status.  MPC-BE gets updated every day. A new version is posted today on codecs.com: https://www.free-codecs.com/download/mpc-be.htm The list with fixes in the release notes is really long. One question then: will MPC-HC get a fix for windows 11? I know windows 11 is still very much in motion, but these (reproducable, tried many times, multiple pc's, same result) crashes are really annoying and i'd rather use MPC-HC of course, so i don't have to reinstall MPC-BE after each update. (ok, i know that nowadays you can choose a fast update in k-lite codec pack)  Ghost_BusterPosts : 5Join date : 2021-11-30

Daily changes are meaningless. It has a lot of tiny code changes that do not have any effect on functionality. A lot of the changes are also for its internal codecs, which in case of MPC-HC are developed in an external project. MPC-HC has fewer commits, but larger code changes per commit. Long story short: K-Lite will NOT include MPC-BE.MPC-HC is already fully compatible with Windows 11.If you get crashes you need to give screenshots of the crash error details. Well ok. Then i hope this will be fixed, as mpc-be does not have this bug. MPC-HC crashes when playing an audio stream, i.e. internet radio, like this easy listening stream: https://igor.torontocast.com:1955/stream and when the stream gets interrupted for whatever reason, MPC crashes:In the windows evenlog there is this:"The program mpc-hc64.exe version 1.9.15.79 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Security and Maintenance control panel. Process ID: 1028 Start Time: 01d7e5d682a0ca53 Termination Time: 41 Application Path: C:\Program Files (x86)\K-Lite Codec Pack\MPC-HC64\mpc-hc64.exe Report Id: 71ed9102-c8b3-49c2-b739-d6d3730ddcac Faulting package full name: Faulting package-relative application ID: Hang type: Unknown"This is reproducable, also with other streams and on other computers. i have the same on my HTPC.Hope this helps.Ghost_BusterPosts : 5Join date : 2021-11-30

haha who would've thought that? i guess i just got lucky then. I just installed the latest mpc-hc like you suggested and it went into pause-mode nicely, just like mpc-be did. Nice job!
