It would help if you provide general info on precisely what engine and year Caddy you are having issues with. Any chance you have had the emissions recall done? If it is still inside the recall warranty period VW may pick up some or all of the cost of sorting out these issues out for you. Sadly with computers controlling so many things on vehicles nowadays it can be costly to ignore warning signs on the dash. A 2016 model is probably one of the newer mark 4 version of the Caddy - although it could possibly be a late registered facelift model. If your van has LED rear light clusters rather than conventional bulbs then it is a Mark 4 and the recall is irrelevant - as the Mark 4 - 2.0tdi models came with adblue from day one. If it is a late registered facelift model the emissions recall may indeed apply, and you can check if the recall is due by contacting a VW dealer or go online to the Government website here : https://www.gov.uk/check-vehicle-recall Sadly frequent short journeys and poor quality diesel (supermarkets) appears to be a major cause of EGR valve(exhaust gas recycle) , Cat and DPF(Diesel Particulate Filter) issues. If your Caddy does not get up to temperature for long enough during daily driving then the EGR and DPF can start to clog up and eventually wreck your catalyst. Sadly the exhaust handling systems on modern diesels really needs a sustained period of heat, fairly regularly. If you do loads of short journeys consider taking it for a fast motorway blast once a week. Sadly it sounds like you may have ignored the warning signs for too long and may be facing quite a garage bill to get your Caddy running well again. Started regening when i wasnt driving but was turned off half way through the cycle, thats whats started the issues. Thanks again bud 👍 Top SnoWhite Twin Turbo poster Posts: 460 Joined: Sat Aug 15, 2015 6:41 pm Engine size/power: 2.0 CR TDI (108bhp)

Glad to hear your Caddy is fixed. I have not driven a 4th Gen yet but I guess VW finally got around to adding a "regen underway" warning light - so you at least know when a regen is underway. Yes you can occasionally get away with shutting the engine down part way through a DPF/catalyst regen. BUT if you only do short jouneys you really need to give it a quick motorway blast every so often to clear out the DPF and Catalyst or perhaps choose a petrol model. Sadly on earlier tdi facelift models we have no visual warning, and you have to get into a habit of listening to the engine noise just before shutting it off. So before shutting down the engine I routinely turn off the radio and heater blower and check in case the cooling fans are running mental fast which usually means a regen is underway. So to avoid problems if they are running instead of parking-up I just take it for a further 10 minute blast. That is usually all the time needed to complete the DPF regen cycle and the extra fuel used is a lot cheaper than either a trip to the garage or fitting a new DPF at close to £400 before fitting! I'm glad it's fixed too. What a pain it is. (Regen). Mines mk 4 .it don't have regen underway lamp. I experience regen ,every week . mileage is usually Between 160 to 220 .miles. if your stuck in town and can't burn it off you're never sure it's not been aborted. I'd never buy another diesel. I’ve been having this problem recently, unfortunately my ‘commute’ to work is 3 miles there and 3 miles back. I’m a Caddy Maxi Life 2.0 TDi 150 I had not had a problem previously, but my Adblue warning came up on the MFD recently, and so I refilled. Since then, I’ve had a regen take place every 3 mile journey for a week if that makes sense ? Took it for a blast today 14 miles, and got to some decent speed on the dual carriageway, and didn’t regen when I got home. Van is a MK4 obviously, and is a 2018, it has 20470 on the clock. Ideally would like to get onto a big Road/Motorway for 30/40 miles, but can’t really justify that in the current climate 😩 Chestnut Brown Caddy MK4 Maxi Life 2.0Tdi 150bhp , 18” Matt Bronze OZ Ultraleggera’s 8Jx18 ET45 on Bridgestone 225/40/18’s Top User avatar Doc Not God, just a bellend Posts: 18787 Joined: Thu Jan 01, 1970 1:00 am Engine size/power: 2.0TSI EA888 Gen3 Location: Monaghan, Ireland & Derbyshire, UK

Decent speed may not be the answer for regeneration, it needs high exhaust temperatures. You'd be better driving at 50 in fourth gear for two miles of motorway then change up a gear and sit at 60 for five to ten minutes. Thanks for the heads up on this issue,, my van barely does 2 miles a day so mine would be a prime candidate for these problems... I'm defo going to take it out on a run now iv read this.
