DWG88 D Hi guys first of all if this has been covered before I apologise. But I'm looking to renew the suspension front and rear on our Touran as the bushes gave all perished. I have come across complete kits although they don't come with replacement bolts. So to replace the bolts with the recommend vw stretch bolts it would cost a small fortune. So I'm wondering if anyone has replaced them with standard bolts and used loctite on the threads?? #1 · Oct 5, 2019 Hi guys first of all if this has been covered before I apologise. Sort by Oldest first Oldest first Newest first Most reactions #2 · Oct 6, 2019 Stretch bolts are a one time use because they stretch. Loctite is used to stop nuts/bolts coming loose. You would need to find the tensile strength of these bolts. #3 · Oct 6, 2019 Most of the bolts are specific purpose, some are even eccentric for adjustment purposes. Arms from Febi and Merle are often kits which can be ordered with the required OE fasteners. I personally think it would be very dangerous to use generic fasteners, if one failed it could be fatal but yes a full set of fasteners can really add up, the full set for a rear end could easily exceed £200 and to TRY and ensure workshop flow we keep a huge range in stock. After a while a random box of left overs develops and when the box gets annoyingly full I sit down and identify them so they can be restocked. Last time I did this the box, about the same size as a show box contained over £1k of random fastens, I reckon we must have £20k of genuine VAG fasteners in stock and this is an old pic from years ago of the alcove in the stores, there are probably double this now and down to the floor plush some bins have three different part numbers in. #4 · Oct 21, 2019 Yes I appreciate that loctite is a thread lock but there was a forum some where that mentioned replacing the bolts with standard ones as long as I was to find the correct torque setting for said bolt and adding some loctirr to secure it . Where As the eccentric bolts are concerned I'd would consider replacing with like for like. As said and confirmed with crasher the bolts alone would cost a small fortune. The problem I'm having is that the bushes are knackered and need replaced. So I was considering getting a second hand complete front and rear subframe to have blasted and replace the bushes. I appreciate that crasher did mention that the likes of febi parts come with replacement or spec bolts but again with the need to basically replace the whole suspension it's going to add up. Only reason I don't want to cut my losses either the car is it's just had a brand new Sachs clutch and dmf kit fitted had the injector loom replaced and the the brakes where overhauled prior to me purchasing the car. I anyone can help me out please send me in the right direction as I was previously a vauxhall man and never had problems with these one use stretch bolts . #5 · Oct 21, 2019 If you didn't replace the eccentric bolts with the same thing then you would have no camber and caster adjustment. The used subframe is a good and popular idea to keep downtime to a minimum. On one we did recently I ordered Febi and Meyle kits and so the number of bolts required was reduced, this is the parts list, I think a couple of bolts are not listed, just doing an estimate for another chap of the forum

#6 · Oct 27, 2019 Lemforder produce Service Packs which contain the fastenings (inc. TTY) for the particular bush/joint; https://aftermarket.zf.com/go/en/le...emfoerder/products/products-for-cars-and-light-commercial-vehicles/servicepack/ From the link go to the online catalogue and search for your vehicle. Also, I use Autodoc and if you search for the specific bolt by part number, then you can find the Lemforder version and the service pack - much cheaper than VW. Hope this helps. #7 · Oct 27, 2019 Trouble is no one imports them into the UK... I complained and they said talk to our importers, ECP, and I replied, I have, they have no idea what I am on about.... can’t see this situation improving after Brexit... #8 · Oct 27, 2019 I bought them from Autodoc no problem at all. #9 · Oct 27, 2019 Yes Autodoc are good but not in the UK. #10 · Oct 28, 2019 I ordered almost all the parts and bolts etc. for a full bushing refresh in UK; https://www.autodoc.co.uk/ Worked fine. I need to find a nice person/garage that I can use their lift now to get the job done - I started to try to do it on axle stands but I didn't have enough clearance for breaker bars etc. #11 · Oct 28, 2019 Autodoc UK is in Germany.... #12 · Oct 28, 2019 Fair enough! They still deliver to UK in a reasonable time frame and you can get the affordable Lemforder parts through them. I don't see a problem. #13 · Oct 28, 2019
