A police Facebook post about a wanted South Australian woman who shares her name with a popular song has gone viral, attracting more than 20,000 comments — many of them references to Cold Chisel.

Key points:

  • Khe Sanh Cox is wanted in connection with serious offences, including break-ins
  • Police are appealing for public help to find her
  • A Facebook post has so far been shared about 4,000 times

Police yesterday appealed to the public for help finding 28-year-old Khe Sanh Cox, from Surrey Downs in Adelaide's north-eastern suburbs.

Police said Ms Cox was wanted in connection with a number of serious offences, including break-ins and car thefts.

The Facebook post appealing for help in finding her has so far been shared more than 4,000 times and liked about 5,000 times.

While police are pleased with response, they said the bulk of the comments were in relation to the wanted woman's name, which she shares with Cold Chisel's song Khe Sanh.

"We put the release out yesterday afternoon with a photo of her on our website and on Facebook," Senior Constable Mick Abbott said.

"She has breached her home detention by cutting off her home detention bracelet, and she's wanted for a number of serious offences.

"We've got a huge response on Twitter and Facebook, it's been quite good."

Many of the comments reference the song's lyrics, including the final refrain about "the last plane out of Sydney".

"I expect the police are looking for her diligently, from the ocean to the Silver City," another social media user wrote.

"Her name has obviously prompted a lot of comments: checking Bow River, have we checked the last plane out of Sydney? All that sort of thing," Senior Constable Abbott said.

In a separate post on Twitter, SA Police bought into the banter by referencing other Cold Chisel songs.

"We've already searched Bow River and the Star Hotel," police said.

Ms Cox is described as 157 centimetres tall with black hair and blue eyes.

Police are asking anyone who knows of her whereabouts to contact the police assistance line on 131 444.
