quasar said: Can anyone enlighten me, how to get that message to go off, as I'm sure it wasn't putting the message up the first few days I had the car, I'm sure there's nothing wrong, but I've either pressed something or other...lol I suspect it's something to do with the way I lock the car or something, not sure exactly what if anything I'm doing to put this message up. It always appears when I turn the ignition off. Click to expand...See if what's in this thread will help as they do have a copy of an owner's manual which is for an Amarok. http://www.vwamarokforum.net/threads/check-safelock-has-appeared-in-my-mfd-what-the-hell-is-a-safelock.1204/ . #4 · Nov 26, 2013 (Edited by Moderator) Thanks OD, I did a few google searches myself, and it is covered in my manual, and it's basically what they describe in that thread, in the manual it states, if you lock the car by pressing once on the keyfob it also enables the safelock feature this where all the lock levers are disengaged, (Probably what we call DEADLOCKED))which according to the book makes the car even more difficult to break into. From the numerous threads from users asking the same question online, it would appear to be nothing more that a reminder that passengers could be locked in the car and be unable to open any doors, if it's enabled. So I must be going senile, as it must have indeed been there since day 1, yet I would have put £100 on it just started doing it yesterday... time to crawl in my coffin I think...lol So our friend NZTIGUAN is likely right to ignore it, something I'll be trying to do, think my minds playing tricks on me...lol #5 · Nov 26, 2013 I think it is there as a safety message just to remind you when exiting the Tig because unlike all other cars I have owned with dead locking a single press on the lock fob enables the SafeLock. On the others you had to click the lock fob twice in quick succession to enable dead locking. I guess it makes sense from a security point of view to activate the dead locking on a single click, but after years of requiring people to double click, they probably decided a warning was in order to avoid multi million $ lawsuits from owners locking their kids, granny or pooch in the vehicle with no easy means of escape in the event of an accident. I don't believe there is any way to disable it. #6 · Nov 26, 2013 (Edited by Moderator) Thanks lohr500, you actually posted as I was amending my previous post, as I had found loads of similar enquiries and comments online, and as you say that's is exactly what it is. I too have always pressed twice to deadlock my previous cars, but your explanation was spot on, and Im sure you are 100% right, and I agree that's likely the reason why VW puts the message up every time. TBH, what got me a little baffled was my own certainty in my own mind that it had only appeared yesterday, and indeed would have bet money on it, I so convinced, but in reality I was obviously mistaken and it's been there since day 1, just hard to believe its took 6-days for me to notice.. Thanks guys puzzle is solved. the cause was......................................................................................the driver losing his marbles...lol #7 · Nov 26, 2013

I've had less time than usual these last few days, to really have a good play, it was good to see that it read in all the full info for my mp3's on the SD card as my last car didn't display all the Title/Artist info on memory cards for some reason, same with folder names. I must admit, although it's the cheaper unit the RNS 315 seems quite good to me, just a shame it doesn't do split screen, say half for the mp3 and half for the satnav like on my Beemer. Also realised a couple days ago I'd forgotten to remove the 4 cd 's I had in the player, nothing of real importance as I can always burn them again. In fact I doubt I would ever use the CD unit, having the option for SD and USB etc. sort of makes it redundant a bit. #9 · Nov 26, 2013

I don't have the same message on my Tig though so it must be only on the MkII,s Mick #10 · Nov 26, 2013 Hi quasar, Glad to have helped on the safelock message. If you ever figure out the parking brake logic then please let me know as I still don't get it after a year!! :headbang: Sometimes it seems that I can just jump in, start up, select D or R, hit the accelerator and the electric park brake releases. Other times it remains on no matter how much right foot I give it. I always have the auto hold enabled, but never manually engage the electric hand brake. On a separate subject, do you find the RNS315 to be a bit slow to track actual road position? I've been on unfamiliar routes and found I've passed the road turning or roundabout exit before the icon on the screen has shown the true position. It's OK if you aren't faced with too many turn choices, but on roads with lots of side roads, it is hard work. The satnav in my wife's Freelander seemed much more responsive. #11 · Nov 26, 2013 (Edited by Moderator)

Click to expand...The only time it shouldn't release in your scenario is if you don't have your seatbelt on and the door shut (actually not certain if the door has to be shut), then it should put up a "warning" telling you to press the footbrake, when you put your foot on the brake you can release the handbrake with a press of the handbrake switch. This is so you CAN drive with your seat belt off if needed, I often use this going between gates or just backing out of the garage to clean the car or similar. SO basically it's ensuring that nobody can "accidentally" move the car without being aware of what they're doing !!! I had Tig number one for 5 years and this one for 6 months and never had an issue once I "got" that it's seat belt on or NO GO !! Cheers #12 · Nov 28, 2013 Thanks NZTIGUAN, I bet that's it. Trying to set off before belting up. #13 · Dec 2, 2013 (Edited by Moderator) NZTIGUAN is absolutely correct, I used to be one of those drivers that sometimes tended to fasten my belt when driving away, I've quickly realised that fastening your seat belt in the TIG is the KEY to getting the e-brake to behave in the way it was intended. Most cars will put a warning message up when seat belt is not fastened, but on the TIG it stops things from working, on the plus side, it does help to stop our previous bad habits..lol #14 · Dec 23, 2013 One month later and all is well. Auto handbrake releases every time I set off now that I make sure I have put my seatbelt on first
