BTW Fiesty nice to meet you Sat. Sort by Oldest first Oldest first Newest first Most reactions #2 · Feb 8, 2005 Ray, I just went through this EXACT SAME THING since I have the same motor you have. As I understand it, the BPZ8H-N-10 plug is the one you need, the BP8H-N-10 will not be the same. The plug with the Z has a resistor in it which is necessary for the motor to fire correctly, and keeps your motor from causing interference with the other electric devices in your boat (fishfinder, radio, etc). 12 bucks at stevens is a drag, but I couldn't find anyone else around that had them. #3 · Feb 8, 2005 Riverkeeper thanks anyway for the help I should have got 3 extra but that would have been close to $90. for plugs but what do you do when you want to fish Ray. #4 · Feb 8, 2005 What year merc? I go to a local auto parts store and have them order o/b plugs for me. I have to buy a unit box of 4 or 8. It takes a few days to get them, but they have always gotten what I've needed including plugs for the merc 40hp 4 stroke I had. Now is the time to go to your local auto supply house and order them. Giz... #5 · Feb 8, 2005 Whoa....Hold on! $12.00 per plug! That's what I said when I first went for plugs for my Merc. Then I found that Baxters carries the same exact range plug in NGK, without the "Z" or some other letter, for around $2.50. My motor's a '01 Merc 75 2-stroke, never had one issue with any interference anywhere. If it's the same heat range and style, it will run your motor. Smj #6 · Feb 8, 2005 Giz is right, you can go to shuck's and get autolites for $1.69 and they will work just fine. #7 · Feb 8, 2005 From what I learned over the years, there are a couple of warehouses in Portland that supplies all the parts houses including the boat places. I have been able to order the exact plug in NGK or any other brand that I wanted. I know some Napa stores stock a good supply of ob plugs. If one store won't order them for you, go to another. You may have to prepay for them, but the cost difference is worth it. GI Joes also carry some ob plugs at a good price, but the selection is small. Giz... #8 · Feb 9, 2005 Gizmo Man its an 04 I tried GI Joes, Fishermens, Marine West, and Boaters World before I ended up going to Stevens what auto parts store do you go to is it Napa I dont mind pre paying to save money thanks Ray. #9 · Feb 9, 2005 Ray, other than joes, the stores you mentioned stock plugs and do not special order them. I use dusty's auto in vanc. (Hazel dell). For the fun of it I just called Dan at Dustys and you better sit down for this one. The "z" plug is $7.00 in NGK. The shocker is that an autolight crossover is $25!!!!ouch . The ngk without the z is only $1.99. The autolight is still $25.00 He said if ordered in the am, he can generally get them the same day. You need to find out why the "z" plug is needed. He was unable to find any info in the book he has. Good luck. Hope this helps... Giz... :bigshock: :bigshock: #10 · Feb 9, 2005 they also said Baxters...... just head down to the Sportsmans show..... on the way out from there stop at Fishermans Marine and out from there (if any money left) stop at Baxters :jester: #11 · Feb 9, 2005 "Baxters Auto Parts"?? Hmmm, Where did I hear that before? Smj #12 · Feb 10, 2005 SMJ the guys at Stevens said that I need the j for it to run properly its my first new motor and I dont want damage anything but I put 1 of the old plugs in my coat pocket and at lunch I will try Baxsters and Napa to see if I can order them thanks everyone for your help I kinda feel like a goof paying that kind of money but I just wanted to get out and fish hopfuly I will know next time Ray. #13 · Feb 11, 2005 Well today I ordered and picked up 3 extra plugs for $7.29 ea. Am I still a goof I dont know. but I did order in the morning and was able to pick up at lunch. Sorry I forgot to mention it was at Baxters in Beaverton I could not get ahold of anyone at Napa probably to busy taking orders for the $2.79 plugs. Anyway I'm happy thanks for all the help Ray. #14 · Feb 15, 2005 I also have a new Merc and no one was stocking the plugs. Baxter had them but I found that the smaller local parts stores were cheaper. Dusty's in Vanc is the one I use and can get the plugs the same day. My suggestion is check with your local parts guy and see if he can get them cheaper. #15 · Feb 16, 2005 CohoKen what did you end up paying for them? I think $7.29 is still to much thanks Ray.
