The 13 Verb Functions ( Reflex Method )

Ex :
VF1 : S + Vi (intransitive verb) (intransitive verb : là động từ không cần túc từ ) -I get up -She cries
VF2 : S + Vt + D.O ( Vt = transitive verb là tha động từ cần có túc từ ; D.O = Dirrect Object [túc từ trực tiếp trả lời cho WHAT ] ) -I brush my teeth
VF3 : S + Vlk + C (linking verb ) (Vlk là động từ dùng để nối complement [bổ túc từ ] cho 1 noun/ pronoun (S) C : là bổ túc từ , bổ nghĩa cho danh từ hoặc đại từ [ to be , to feel, to become, to be pround of , to be ashamed of , to be tired of , to be capable of, to be fond of, to be able to ] -She is beautiful -He became cheerful
VF4 : S + Vt + D.O + I.O ( I. O = indirrect object [túc từ gián tiếp trả lời cho WHO] ) [ to give, to bring, to advance, to take, to rent ] -He sent a letter to her -I advanced them some money
VF5 : S +V + D.O + B.I (B.I : verb bare-infinitive) [ 4 verb : Make, Let, Help, Have ] -I make him work -I let him play soccer -I help my mother cook dinner -I have my brother clean the table
VF6 : S + V + D.O + Pr.P (PrP = present participle –Ving) [6 verb : Catch, Find, Keep, Leave, Set, Start] -She caught him looking at her -We found the boy playing in the garden -I kept him waiting -The left her crying in her room -I will set the engine going -They strart the program rolling
VF7 : S + V + D.O + B.I or PrP (verb of perception) [ Look at, See, Notice , Observe, Watch, Listen to, Hear, Feel, Smell, Taste ] -The looking at me playing tennis -My mother saw her walking -I notice my brother talking to her -…..
VF8 : S + V + D.O + ADJ (or Past Participle ) (when the object doesn’t do the action) -He keeps the door locked -He keeps the the door white -They have the house painted -They make the house clean
VF9 : S + V + D.O + OC (Object Complement) [ To call, To make , To appoint, To assign, To consider, To vote, To elect, To choose, To designate ] -I call her Patty -We make our child a singer -They appoint him secretary …
VF10a : S + V + G (Gerund or Passive gerund Being PP ) [ Admit , Anticipate , Appreciate, Avoid, Consider, Delay, Deny, Dislike, Enjoy, Finish, Keep, Mind, Miss, Postpone, Practice, Risk, Suggest ] -He admit taking my book -I anticipate receiving your gift -We appreciate your telling him to let us alone -She avoids seeing me -We consider buying a new car
VF10b : S + Expressions+ Gerund (Ving ) or Passive gerund (Being PP ) - Some expressions+ G –một số động từ có “to” đi với Gerund : To be used to , To get used to , To be accustomed to, get accustomed to, To object to, To look forward to - TO GO + Gerund ( a sport or a hobby ) - I’am used to getting up early - I get used to getting up early - … -Go swimming -Go dancing
VF11 : The general rule a.S + V + to + VF b.S + V + to be PP c.S + V + Gerund (or to be + PP = passive meaning ) [5 verb : Need, Want, Merit, Be worth, Desire ] -a/ He likes to go -b/ He likes to be rewarded -c/ This book is worth reading (this book is worth to be read )
VF12 : The verb Patterns a.S + VF + (To, in order to + VF ) –Purpose (mục đích ) b.S + VF , VF ,and VF (Consecutive actions- hành động nối tiếp nhau ) c.S + VF , PrP ( Simultaneous actions- hành động xảy ra cùng lúc -a/ She stays in order to learn English -b/ She came, picked up her brother and went home -c/ My father sat on the sofa, watching TV
VF13 : S + Modal + VF (Can, Could, May, Might, Shall, Should, Will, Would, Must, Had better, Would Rather, Have got to ) -I can work -She will buy your home
