I've recently begun playing in an acoustic duo (two acoustic guitars, two vocals) and want to use smaller speakers with wider dispersion for the smaller venues we play. It will either be a pair of K8.2's or a pair of K10.2's. Realistically, what difference will there be between these two in this situation? K8/K10 spec differences are: -10db 55-20k/50-20k Hz -6db 59-20k/56-20k Hz spl 128/130 db@1 meter dispersion 105/90 degreesCrowder

GREAT speakers that will double as monitors if you should need them for that in the future. I could easily do gigs with K8's but I love my K10's. I've had no desire to use anything else since I got them. Mmodulusman

When either speaker is used as a FOH speaker it is with a subwoofer or 2.

Click to expand...Currently I have a pair of k12.2 and a pair of ks112 subs. I'm new to QSC and I'm looking to get a second pair of K.2. I'm having trouble deciding between the 8.2 and the 10.2. I play in a 4 piece rock band, 2 guitars, bass and drums. It's all direct, no backline amps just modelers and electronic drums. Would the 8.2 cut it in a bar or is that asking a bit much? And for that matter if the 8s aren't ideal, how would the 10s stack up against the 12s? I'd like to leave the 12s in the rehearsal space and just bring them to smaller gigs where we don't need subs. The 12s actually handle the band pretty well even without subs. But if I could bring something a little smaller when I'm using subs that would be great.

The K8 sounds a bit tighter.

I just sold my pair to a friend who has an event space, and I was really surprised how full they sound with simple program music coming through them (no sub).

I’m using Analog synths, an HX-3 Hammond Clone and a PC with Kontakt, PLAY, PTeq, Zebra2 and Omni/Keyscape. Even samples only (Using the Studio Preset slightly tweaked) don’t really give me the full sound I’m accustomed to with the K12’s. However, when I use K8.2’s with a B1200D Sub they sound great, and actually I prefer that rig over the K12s now.

Recently I got a digital mixer, MIDAS MR18 and an Ipad to control it with. That meant I had to get some powered monitors since I already had a pair of JBL Eon sticks for mains and didn't need separate amps anymore. I started reading great reviews on the little Behringers with an 8" woofer. They are only $170 to $180 each so I bought a pair. I used them last Friday as monitors at an outdoor city concert. I was really surprised, they sounded just fine! The plastic cabinets are really solid yet they still only weigh 15 pounds each. The sound out front was also VERY nice and the mix was good. Like I said I would never doubt that the QSCs are better speakers but these get the job done too! I didn't think I would ever have anything nice to say about Behringer equipment but apparently those days are gone!!andrekp

K10 would probably work as well, but I don't want the size and weight. Maybe made up by not having a sub. K12's I would pass on. Everybody seems to use 12's for everything, and every acoustic gig I've seen with them is boomy with too much low end. You just don't need a 12 unless you are using a kick or a bass (or something that uses those frequencies extensively). the tint bit of low end you need with an acoustic duo is more that fine with 8's and a sub, and it'll sound better. At one of my weekly gigs we use the 10.2s with one QSC KS212C fills the room nicely with plenty of power to spare. I mixed a friends band doing an outdoor gig using the 8.2s with one Yamaha dxs12 sub, sounded fine for about 75 people. I would go with the 10.2s since they have a top and a side handle which makes it easier to put on poles or speaker stands. K
