TOTO C2 Vs C200: Is It Worth Paying More?

In this article, we’ll be comparing the TOTO C200 with the newer TOTO C2.

Quick side note: you may want to consider the C5 since it combines the best features of the C2 and C200 for a price that’s usually somewhere in the middle. You can check the price for the C5 here (affiliate link).

To start with, here are some of the main differences between the TOTO C2 and C200:

  • Availability in round.
  • Wireless remote vs side panel.
  • Nozzle hygiene (standard vs sanitizing EWATER+).
  • User presets for saving your favorite settings.
  • Aesthetics (bulkiness, curve, design).

TOTO C2 vs C200: Features and Specs

The TOTO C200 Washlet

TOTO SW2044T20#01 WASHLET+ Ready Electronic Bidet Toilet Seat with PREMIST, Cotton White

Up first, is the TOTO C200 Washlet. It’s usually ~1.5 x the price of the C2, but I’ve seen it go on sale for much lower. You can check out the current prices here (also check price on Amazon). It’s available in elongated and round.

Overall, I’d advise against this bidet for those with elongated toilets. If you want a wireless remote, there’s a better/newer version called the TOTO C5, that’s often less expensive (affiliate link).

The C5 is near identical to the C2 but without the side panel. So, you can have the best of both worlds (advanced nozzle sanitation, handheld remote, modern design, etc.).

If you have a round toilet, by all means, go with the C200. It’s a popular bidet that has a long track record of positive user feedback.

Features and Specs of the TOTO C200

Water Temperature:

  • Tank-type heater for ~1 minute of warm water.
  • Choose between “Off” position (cold tap) and settings that range from 95° F to 104° F.

Water Pressure:

  • Adjustable water pressure w/5 settings.
  • Water flow rate that ranges from 0.07 to 0.11 gal (or 0.27 – 0.43 L) per minute.
  • There’s no turbo mode but there is a rear soft spray setting that’s useful for soothing irritated skin (hemorrhoids, etc.).

Comfort:

  • Heated seat w/temperature control, ranging from 82°F to 97°F.
  • The C200 has a highly sloped seat, so if installing one on a round toilet, you won’t have a ton of room upfront.
  • Aerated wash for comfort.

Convenience:

  • Slim convenient wireless remote, w/illuminated touchpad.
  • The C200 can be installed on more toilets since it fits round and elongated bowls.
  • Warm air dryer with 5 temperature settings.
  • User presets: 2 users cans save their preferred water pressure/temperature and wand position.
  • Automatic air deodorizer for removing foul odors.

Design:

  • Mostly white with minimal decals, colors, labels, etc.
  • The elongated Washlet+ version of the C200 (SW2044T20) has concealed supply connection for seamless installation.
  • Rather bulky in the back with a rear height of 7.4” (~19 cm).

Seat and Lid:

  • Slam-free seat and lid with slow-close hinges.
  • Docking station with quick-release button for easy bidet removal, installation, and cleaning.

Cleaning Wand and Spray Capability:

  • Single plastic dual-action nozzle for regular (posterior) and feminine (front) cleansing.
  • Adjustable nozzle position with 5 settings for accurate aiming.
  • Rear (standard), Rear Soft, and Front wash modes.
  • Oscillating/wide spray setting for greater coverage and better cleansing.
  • Pulse for soothing massage-like effect.

Safety and Sanitation:

  • Standard automatic self-cleaning nozzle.
  • PREMIST function – water is sprayed on the bowl before each use to keep waste from sticking.
  • Safety seat sensor to prevent unwanted bidet operation.

Water and Energy Efficiency:

  • An automatic energy saver mode: the C200 lowers the toilet seat temp during periods of infrequent bidet use and cuts off the seat and water heaters during stretches when the bidet is never used.
  • Aerated wash for water efficiency.

The TOTO C2 Washlet

TOTO SW3074#01 WASHLET C2 Electronic Bidet Toilet Seat with PREMIST and EWATER+ Wand Cleaning, Elongated, Cotton White

If you can do without a wireless remote, I’d suggest the TOTO C2 Washlet+ since it’ll give you a lot better bang for your buck.

It varies, but you can expect to save about 30% by choosing the TOTO C2. You can check out the current prices here and compare with Amazon here.

There are only two versions of this bidet: the SW3074 and SW3074T40. The -T40 version tends to cost a bit more, in my experience, and only offers concealed supply connections as an added benefit. So, I recommend the former (SW3074).

Feature and Specs of the TOTO C2

Water Temperature:

  • Tank-type heater for about a minute of warm water.
  • 4 temperature settings include: “Off” (cold tap), from Low (95° F) to High (104° F).

Water Pressure:

  • Adjustable water pressure w/5 settings.
  • Range from 0.07-0.11 gal (or 0.27 -0.43 L) per minute.
  • Rear Soft mode that can be used for bidet sitz baths.

Comfort:

  • Heated seat w/multiple temperature settings: OFF, and from ~82-97 °F.
  • Microbubbles are incorporated into outgoing water stream for a firmer yet softer cleansing.
  • The seat is especially small for a bidet with a tank-type heater, so the user has plenty of room in the front.

Convenience:

  • A warm air dryer with multiple temperature settings.
  • Convenient side panel with easy-to-read buttons.
  • Automatic air deodorizer to keep the bathroom smelling fresh.

Design:

  • The Washlet+ version (the SW3074T40#01) has concealed supply connections for a clean look upon installation (no wires sticking out).
  • Low-profile design with minimal curve. With a seat height of only 5.8”, the TOTO C2 is one of the slimmest bidets of its kind.
  • Solid color with minimal decals and labels. The side panel is non-bulky and isn’t plastered with chrome and colorful buttons.

Seat and Lid:

  • Slow-close seat and lid to save wear and tear long-term.
  • Docking station w/quick-release button for easy bidet installation, removal, and cleaning.

Cleaning Wand and Spray capability:

  • Single plastic dual-action nozzle for rear and front feminine cleansing.
  • Nozzle adjustable across 5 positions for max aiming accuracy.
  • Oscillating spray mode causes the wand to move back and forth for a more thorough cleansing.
  • Massage/pulse mode causes the water pressure to switch between soft and strong for a massage effect.

Safety and Sanitation:

  • Automatic, self-sanitizing nozzle that uses EWATER+.
  • PREMIST function – the bowl is sprayed with water before each use.
  • Safety seat sensor to prevent accidental bidet operation.

Water and Energy Efficiency:

  • Auto Energy Saver: tuns the water/seat temp down during infrequent use and completely off during longer periods of disuse.
  • Timer Energy Saver: you determine which hours of the day/night you want the bidet to go into low-power mode.
  • Timer + Auto Energy Saver: both Eco modes are combined for max energy savings.
  • Aerated stream saves water.

Main Differences: TOTO C2 vs C200

For a long time, the C100 and C200 were the standard mid-tier (premium) TOTO options, with the only major difference being wireless remote offered by the C200.

In recent times, the brand has added the C2 and C5 to the lineup, which are essentially modern versions of the C100 and C200.

The TOTO C2 Has a Wireless Remote

This is perhaps the most important difference. Electric bidets come with a control panel that’s either handheld or fixed to the side of the toilet.

Bidets with handheld remotes offer a few benefits:

  • Convenience for all users. It might sound trivial, but a lot of folks really dislike having to look down and to the side to operate the bidet.
  • Ideal for older adults and those with physical limitations. Someone with physical limitations may find they lack the strength or coordination to operate a bidet with a side panel.
  • Ideal for those with limited eyesight. One good thing about having a handheld remote is that you can hold it up close to look at the controls.
  • They look better. Wireless remotes are considered a luxury item, in large part because it allows the bidet to look more like a normal toilet seat. Now, that’s less true in this case, since the C2 is less bulky having been designed more recently.
  • Better for left-handed users. I’ve yet to come across an electric bidet with a left-facing control arm. There’s a handful of bidet attachments for left-handers, but not electric bidets for some reason.
  • Fewer installation issues. Most folks have no problems when it comes to installing bidets with side control arms. But control arms do get in the way of certain types of toilets, especially one-piece toilets with curves.
  • Better for heavier individuals. Sometimes, those with a wide torso find that control panels dig into their side.

On the downside, bidets with handheld remotes are more expensive. Given two otherwise identical bidets, the one with the wireless remote will run you at least another $100.

So, it’ll depend on you whether you think it’s worth it.

Also, you have to keep track of the remote (not lose it) and keep from dropping it. Finally, you’ll have to recharge or swap out the batteries when they get too low. You don’t have to deal with any of that with a side control panel.

The C200 Is Available in Round

For those who are new to the subject, most toilets have a round or elongated bowl. Toilet bowls with a round shape are about 2” shorter, ruling out elongated bidet seats.

They can be installed, but it’ll cause significant overhang and the water stream will spray off-target.

In general, electric bidets are harder to come by for round toilets. This is especially true with TOTO bidets. For example, their S500e and S550e (two of the luxury models) come in elongated only.

The C200 does come in round form, so if you have a round toilet, this should make the decision a lot easier.

The TOTO C2 Has Better Nozzle Sanitation

For some, this may be the most important difference, especially for those who are concerned with ensuring max hygiene and sanitation.

Bidet use isn’t associated with infections, but it’s always possible (as with toilet paper). So, it’s nice to have an added layer of protection against contamination of the wand.

Both bidets have wands that self-rinse before and after each use (automatically) and offer an on-demand nozzle-clean function as well.

But the C2 uses EWATER+ to help sanitize the nozzle, while the C200 uses plain tap water. EWATER+ is a solution of electrolytes that forms sodium hypochlorite (NaClO), an all-natural antimicrobial substance used in water treatment.

The TOTO C200 Has User Presets

Neither bidet offers a one-touch auto mode for getting a generic wash/dry cycle—this feature is for convenience since it keeps you from having to go through the same motions/hit the same buttons each time you use the bidet.

But better than an auto mode are user presets. The C200 allows two users to save their preferred settings for water temperature, water pressure, and wand position.

Comfort, Bulkiness, Curve, Design

Bidets are getting sleeker over time. Since the TOTO C2 is a newer bidet, it has a more modern design to it.

In general, comfort and aesthetics go hand-in-hand with bidets, since both have a lot to do with the type of heater.

Basic tank-type heaters require that a warm water reservoir be stored in the rear of the seat causing a bulky back-end and sloping contour.

But manufacturing methods have come a long way, and for whatever reason, the TOTO C2 manages to be almost 2” lower in the rear of the seat and have a less pronounced slope/curve.

Both Bidets Have These Features

PREMIST Function Keeps Toilet Bowl Clean

Video

This feature is unique to TOTO bidets.

The bidet coats the bowl with water before each use, creating a slippery surface. When you’re doing your business, waste is less likely to want to stick to the inside of the bowl.

The really fancy S500 and S300 bidets have a pre- and post-mist function that sprays the toilet bowl with EWATER+ before and after each use, but the basic water pre-mist function does 90% of the work.

Automatic Air Deodorizer

Unlike an air freshener that masks bad odors, deodorizers circulate air through a carbon filter that breaks down smelly molecules. So, deodorizers eliminate embarrassing odors at the source.

The feature is typically only found on luxury class bidets, but TOTO offers it on almost all of their units (all but the A100, last I checked).

Warm Air Dryer w/Adjustable Temp

All but the TOTO A100 offer this feature. A quality warm air dryer allows the user to eliminate toilet paper use altogether since no TP is needed for drying (bidets without dryers rely on a dedicated bidet towel or toilet paper).

Given that TP costs hundreds or thousands over a lifetime, this one feature allows the bidet to pay for itself over time.

Adjustable Everything (Water Pressure, Seat and Water Temp, Etc.)

Use the remote control (C200) or side panel (C2) to adjust:

  • Water and seat surface temperatures.
  • Nozzle position for aiming.
  • The temperature of the warm air dryer
  • Water pressure and spray modes.
  • Air deodorizer.

And the list goes on.

Nozzle Oscillation Mode

Both bidets have an oscillation feature that causes the cleaning wand to move back and forth rapidly to hit a wider area.

Without this feature, you’d have to shift around during cleaning sessions to get water to all the right places.

Using a stationary nozzle to clean your butt would be like holding a water hose in one place while cleaning your car. So, this feature is essential.

Massage Spray Mode

Both bidets have a massage mode as well.

The integral water pump and nozzle rotate soft and strong water pressure for a soothing massage effect.

Energy Saver Modes

Both the C2 and C200 have smart energy-saver modes that memorize when you’re least likely to use the bidet (this takes a few days) and turn the power-zapping bidet components down (or off) during periods of infrequent use.

The C2 has a few extra (3 total) while the C200 has one mode.

Aerated Spray (Comfort and Efficiency)

Air is incorporated into the outgoing water flow which saves water and makes for a softer/more comfortable cleansing experience.

Bidets don’t use much water, but the savings do add up over time.
