Turbo Removal - any advice?

Just bought a Caddy over the weekend with the 1.9tdi engine, and its in need of a new turbo actuator, so turbo off job. Had a look tonight and started removing bits, but not getting too far as it was getting late. From having a look underneath and as much as I could see from the top, it looks like a horrendous job. I forgot how small van engine bays are.Re: Turbo Removal - any advice?

its not too bad, the hardest bit i found was the oil feed pipe nut, seized to the adaptor into the turbo, ended up cutting the feed pipe up top and putting a compression fitting on, just take your time, get it up on stands and get a creeper will make life a little easier, turbo comes out from the top, its a tight fit but it does come out. Managed to get it all off, wasn't as bad as I thought. Looked much easier once I got the exhaust out. I got the turbo out through the exhaust tunnel with dropping the subframe a touch. I couldn't seem to get it out the top? Maybe I'll try get it back in from the top. TopRe: Turbo Removal - any advice?

I never removed the exhaust/cat, mine was pre dpf, I just took the clamp off the turbo and shoved it to the side, and it came out of the top, didn't fancy removing the exhaust and messing with sub frame Sent using Tapatalk Top gooselogan Caddy2k Groupie Posts: 41 Joined: Mon Apr 11, 2016 12:08 am Engine size/power: 1.8 20V TurboRe: Turbo Removal - any advice?

Did you guys remove the inlet? I didn't fancy it after messing with removing inlets on a T4. The exhaust came out quite easily which was surprising and then I did everything from underneath. I only dropped the centre part of the subframe less than an inch leaving all the bolts in. Got it all back on but run into a new problem. Van starts fine but it won't rev and chucks out black smoke aswell as some knocking. I've had a look at the actuator and I can when its idling vacuum is applied and the actuator is fully extended, which I assume is correct? Then when you try to rev it nothing happens with the actuator. When I remove the pipe to the actuator it will then rev fine. Best place to start looking? I will try and get a scanner tomorrow if needed. Top Post Reply- Print view
