ajbell A Had my tyre pressure warning light come on today on my MkV R32. Ive checked the pressures and they were all around 40psi, ive put a couple of psi in each so 42psi now.Ive reset the pressure warning light.Does anyone know what parameters are used to set off the warning, is it a certain percentage drop?.It must be quite sensitive if its warning me at 40psi. #1 · May 23, 2009 Had my tyre pressure warning light come on today on my MkV R32. Sort by Oldest first Oldest first Newest first Most reactions #2 · May 23, 2009 Mine came on the day I picked the .:R up for no apparent reason, yet didn't come on when one of my rear tyres was on about 18psi! #3 · May 23, 2009 40 psi mine are on 32psi all round aint that high... #4 · May 23, 2009 I think 40 psi is about right. With driver and passenger it should be 2.8 bar which is about 40psi. #5 · May 24, 2009 I don't think it's that sensitive. I believe that it's using the pulse from the abs sensor to detect the number of rotations each wheel makes - if there is a change then it warns you that the tyre is deflating. You probably need to check the inflation of all tyres on a cold morning, reset the monitor and check again. If it's still giving you errors, then it's time for more diagnosis work. #6 · May 24, 2009

needs to be 40 psi mate ;) - yeah it does seem high but that what its supposed to be and once youve done it feel the difference.. its massive (so much more responsive steering etc) TPMS works off the abs sensor as said. its unreliable at best but should warn you of large pressure drops like a puncture on the motorway etc so you can pull over before it goes bang. You wouldnt believe the amount of people that dont notice a tyre hanging off the rim despite the smoke trailing behind! if your pressures drop gradually over a long period you wont get any warning. This dissapointed me in all honesty as i was hoping it would prevent the need for regular pressure checks. once you have inflated the tyres press and hold the tpms button in the console and that will reset it (also needs doing when you change tyres or wheels) #7 · May 24, 2009 I firmly believe that TPMS is not just useless, but worse than useless because it can lull you into a false sense of security. Last year I had a complete tyre deflation and the TPMS didn't warn me about it. Sure, I could easily tell I had a flat but what use is TPMS when it can't even noticed that? Apparently it needs something like 2 miles to notice a problem. #8 · May 24, 2009 (Edited by Moderator)

thats just it. When i got the car i never checked the tyres as i was mislead as to how it works. when it went into the dealers on the report form it said they were low and when i queried it i was told how it worked. They hadnt lost a lot of air but id still not be checking them if i hadnt noticed the paperwork. didnt vw offer the TPMS using proper pressure sensors in some gtis? - this is something i would be interested in. maybe if nothings around by my next set of tyres ill go for a aftermarket sensor kit. we will see lol this is what i thought i was getting (just like many others) http://www.sensorland.com/HowPage040.html seems manufacturers are simply skimping lol #9 · May 24, 2009 I think the TPMS offered on the GTI was the same piece of crap they put on the .:R. I could be mistaken though. I have considered getting an aftermarket system installed but decided against it based on price and installation being a sod. I regularly check my tyre pressures and keep a pressure gauge in the glovebox so while having a decent TPMS would be nice I'd rather put my money into other things. #10 · May 24, 2009 Mine came on randomally last week, just reset it & it aint come back on since #11 · May 24, 2009

thats where im at ATM. its a lot of money this is what some had installed at the factory Image no idea what else would be required receiver wise but by all accounts its fairly basic not telling you which tyre is low etc. #12 · May 24, 2009 What happens to the system if you put an afther market wheels on, does TPGS show an error or just stop working. Ray #13 · May 24, 2009 it works off the abs sensors and i pressume compares one side to the other. just reset it and it will be fine (hopefully) lol. Insert Quotes Post Reply
