Hello I will soon be able to subscribe to the FTTH 2500/1000. Unfortunately the router I got from the ISP has only 4 1000 network ports (I don't think they will replace it). Currently I am using an R6250 as router, while the ISP router is only a modem. Would it be possible to connect the ISP router to the R6250 (having DD-WRT installed) with 3 lan cables and set up a load balancer in order to exploit the entire 2500 in down? Thank you.

hmm if i got you correctly 2500/1000 is equal to 2,5Gigabit/1Gigabit connection... if so, what is your ISP provided router...?? as to utilise such a high speed you'd need a solid router with very high specs..or probably equivalent of a small box hi specs x86 or x64 PC running DDWRT or other router specific OS https://eu.protectli.com/vault-6-port/ and speaking of a 4 gigabit ports... those are ports speeds only for switch communication port to port internal speed LAN to LAN...but not WAN to LAN... and NO your R6250 is not capable to utilise such a speed...nor to do a load balancing...for load balancing your ISP must provide a stack of IP's as i started to be able to take advantage of all that speed you'd need a solid gear ..._________________Atheros TP-Link WR1043NDv2 -DD-WRT 62606 Gateway/DoT,Forced DNS,Ad-Block,Firewall,x4VLAN,VPN TP-Link WR1043NDv2 -Gargoyle OS 1.15.x AP,DNS,QoS,Quotas Qualcomm-Atheros Netgear XR500 -DD-WRT 62890 GTW/SmDNS/DoT,AD-Blk,Forced DNS,AP&Net Isolation,x2VLAN,Vanilla Netgear R7800 --DD-WRT 62606 Gateway/DNSCryptv2,AD-Block,Forced DNS,AP&Net Isolation,x3VLAN,Firewall,Vanilla,VPN cli Netgear R9000 --DD-WRT 62606 Gateway/DoT,AD-Block,AP Isolation,Firewall,Forced DNS,x2VLAN,Vanilla Dynalink DL-WRX36-DDWRT 62606 Broadcom Netgear R7000 --DD-WRT 63020 GTW/DNScrypt-proxy2/AD-Block,IPset Firewall,Forced DNS,x4VLAN,VPN cli NOT USING 5Ghz ANYWHERE ------------------------------------------------------ Stubby DNS over TLS I DNSCrypt v2 by mac913

Thank you. Quick and effective answer Smile. The router that the ISP will release should be the HUB+ ZTE H388X. I know that people in Italy did it with 3 different network interface on the pc (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1tWK_11ZJzc&ab_channel=HD-Tech and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJapdNO9AMg&ab_channel=AngeloFerruggiaro), connecting pc and router with 3 cables. I thought about doing the same on DD-WRT, connecting the router with the ISP modem, but I guess it's not feasible Sad

that ZTE H388X is compatible with vDSL 100 to 200Mbit and you ask about 2,5Gig/1Gig is this correct..? and yep you'd need a more power to handle such a ISP WAN speed... either a PC with x2 LAN cards + hardware supported AES instruction by the CPU, running a x64 DDWRT version on it or the small format PC from the link i posted above running ddwrt or any other router OS on it.. 2,5Gig on WAN is way too much to handle wiht non enterprise routers...unless you are terribly wrong with your speed description and you meant 250/100 Mbit only...in that case a normal consumer class router in a range of Netgear R6400v2 or R7000, R7800 will do..._________________Atheros TP-Link WR1043NDv2 -DD-WRT 62606 Gateway/DoT,Forced DNS,Ad-Block,Firewall,x4VLAN,VPN TP-Link WR1043NDv2 -Gargoyle OS 1.15.x AP,DNS,QoS,Quotas Qualcomm-Atheros Netgear XR500 -DD-WRT 62890 GTW/SmDNS/DoT,AD-Blk,Forced DNS,AP&Net Isolation,x2VLAN,Vanilla Netgear R7800 --DD-WRT 62606 Gateway/DNSCryptv2,AD-Block,Forced DNS,AP&Net Isolation,x3VLAN,Firewall,Vanilla,VPN cli Netgear R9000 --DD-WRT 62606 Gateway/DoT,AD-Block,AP Isolation,Firewall,Forced DNS,x2VLAN,Vanilla Dynalink DL-WRX36-DDWRT 62606 Broadcom Netgear R7000 --DD-WRT 63020 GTW/DNScrypt-proxy2/AD-Block,IPset Firewall,Forced DNS,x4VLAN,VPN cli NOT USING 5Ghz ANYWHERE ------------------------------------------------------ Stubby DNS over TLS I DNSCrypt v2 by mac913

Clearly a wrong assumption about one or the other. Either line speed is 250/100 or the ISP router is not the one purveyed or purported._________________"Life is but a fleeting moment, a vapor that vanishes quickly; All is vanity" Contribute To DD-WRT Pogo - A minimal level of ability is expected and needed... On the ZTE H388X, one of the LAN ports can also be used as a gigabit WAN port for connection to the ONT. Newer routers like the Speedport Smart 4 have there a 2.5Gbit LAN/WAN port https://imgur.com/jDpZDj5 https://refbox.de/wp-content/uploads/Speedport-SMART-4_6-scaled.jpg

Sometimes, *not* stating the obvious is intentional. I wish people would understand this. nope you are not rude, i didn't read that far...my mistake I was fully consumed by something else by that time, I have to apologise....I just took the first few lines of the ZTE description...and threw it out..it turned out 100-200 MBit is just an ISP offer... And yes ZTE will handle 2,5Gig/1Gig LAN than the chap could probably use the R6250 in WAP/switch mode and use it as a switch...to pull more ports out plugged to one of the ZTE switch ports, as far as the ZTE switch can handle 2.5Gig...(as they say 1 gig ports) So, if you are lucky 1 gig per ZTE port out of 2-3 ports will be able to deliver 2,5Gig speed, combined use... The problem is if not SFP card or Router/Switch, witch device does have a client card capable to see 2,5Gig...most of the phones/tablets doesn't have such a fast clients, nor other smart devices do...so, again a powerful gear will be needed to utilise such speed if this is a goal at all... some quick ideas for load balancing and dual WAN... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aohcQiveE0M https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GeuuNE3EPBA_________________Atheros TP-Link WR1043NDv2 -DD-WRT 62606 Gateway/DoT,Forced DNS,Ad-Block,Firewall,x4VLAN,VPN TP-Link WR1043NDv2 -Gargoyle OS 1.15.x AP,DNS,QoS,Quotas Qualcomm-Atheros Netgear XR500 -DD-WRT 62890 GTW/SmDNS/DoT,AD-Blk,Forced DNS,AP&Net Isolation,x2VLAN,Vanilla Netgear R7800 --DD-WRT 62606 Gateway/DNSCryptv2,AD-Block,Forced DNS,AP&Net Isolation,x3VLAN,Firewall,Vanilla,VPN cli Netgear R9000 --DD-WRT 62606 Gateway/DoT,AD-Block,AP Isolation,Firewall,Forced DNS,x2VLAN,Vanilla Dynalink DL-WRX36-DDWRT 62606 Broadcom Netgear R7000 --DD-WRT 63020 GTW/DNScrypt-proxy2/AD-Block,IPset Firewall,Forced DNS,x4VLAN,VPN cli NOT USING 5Ghz ANYWHERE ------------------------------------------------------ Stubby DNS over TLS I DNSCrypt v2 by mac913

Thank you, so I need a load balancer, I can't use the DDWRT for that.

R6250 WAN/NAT Getaway performance is way beyond utilising such a high speed...as, its CPU is not great...it has 800 MHz, 2 cores, where is performance will top up 250-300Mbit and with some acceleration may be up to 500Mbit.... However in a WAP/switch mode https://www.wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Wireless_access_point where its NAT is down...and R6250 works in a switch mode...on its Ethernet ports, you can get close to its switch speeds(1 Giabit)......where WiFi side will be much less... To load balance, you'd need a router with possible top WAN performance, preferably with 2+ WAN ports or/an extra Switch (gigabit switch)...you ALready have the ZTE where they claim is capable to deliver 2,5Gig, so you need something else that is able to either to add more Ethernet ports to the ZTE (a switch), or another capable router that is able to see and utilize big WAN load...so, either DDWRT PC box with multi LAN ports https://eu.protectli.com/vault-6-port/ or any other enterprise equipment... if you struggle to understand the matter...before you aim to take any move, you may need to refer to a network specialist...or read and gain some knowledge and understanding... Cool what is a load balancer....hmmm... a thing that balances the load...?? Pretty sure these wikis are likely old and not updated and may not work, whatsoever, but: https://forum.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Category:Dual_WAN DD-WRT does not have an easy way of doing dual WAN as other solutions do. This is a feature that has been requested many years ago, but it has never been implemented.
