yogi b said: i'm sure you are aware of the can of worms you have opened worth the cost is relative and subjective i would scream omg yes, there is nothing like that kind of instant NA torque however, if you have to know the cost you can't afford it just kidding it's like this i love these fast rare gems but is it worth to you and only you to spend twice a professional turbo install for a built vq to get the same 300, or so, hp to me, for sound alone and mere presence nothing touched it now in retirement it just makes more economic sense to go turbo but emotionally give me a vq search 5er's posts, you will get the whole story Click to expand...Yeah it's all about cost vs pleasure but thanks man I'll do that 0 Reply #8 · Feb 25, 2014 if cost comes into this prepare for sticker shock this is more than just an engine swap with all the mods, that make it enjoyable i spent 15 grand i am a bit extreme #9 · Feb 26, 2014 woot i'm having a good time reviewing all this is this what your after here is the guy they are talking about community members of duration remember this #10 · Feb 26, 2014 So in your opinion. If I went bare minimum on everything for now until I got more $ to find this. Is it worth it? 0 Reply #11 · Feb 26, 2014 well is 4th place in a cannonball run from atl to miami averaging over 100 mph for 9 hours straight 12 sec dragstrip runs and roll ons that scare vettes still gets 24mpg @ 80mph passes 18 wheelers in 6th with a leap and somtimes a bound lol blows z's away and is capable of 1.7 60 ft times on the dragstrip can smoke 225 tires at 100mph in 4th and turns 8 grand turns and stops on a dime to me it was the cheapest best maintained m3[bmw] i could find worth 15 grand to you cause i'm a happy boy btw that was the year of living dangerously for me mucho money in tickets, and destroying this rare gem on the dragstrip is regrettable but i wouldn't give up that year for anything was it worth it? Hell yes #14 · Feb 26, 2014 I always love reading and hearing your stories Barry 0 Reply #12 · Feb 26, 2014 just don't push it till you get everything done slam shift 6th to 4th and you will find yourself two lanes over before you realize what happend tires and brakes [stock is fine] but must be in excellent condition wind it out a bit, and you will find yourself over 100mph and you just got in to 3rd lol thats no joke #13 · Feb 26, 2014 the master here is 5er read his build post you have quite an adventure ahead of you before it even runs for me people will say it's still a sentra but completely done it's really not not in feel not in speed nor handling the only things that remain are looks and identical gas mileage #19 · Feb 27, 2014 before you say that ck 5er's posts lol once in it's way more straightforward maintenance no rocket [turbo] science #20 · Feb 28, 2014 As others have said, cost is relative. On the cheap your looking at $4 grand if you do it all yourself. $6-7k if your getting a shop to do it. And thats just the engine swap. You can get a 2JR built motor and a turbo kit for a bit less and make more power but its a different kind of power. If I had to do it all over again I'd still do a VQ swap. If you can wait about 3 months Racingline Performance will have a full mount kit available #21 · Feb 28, 2014 Thanks for the advice. After doing more research I'm thinking of piecing together a turbo kit myself 0 Reply #22 · Feb 28, 2014 welcome to econo world btw travis had one of the greatest ideas maybe taz could pick it up hopefully charles will a very nice kit called vq swap in a box everything you needed in one place including the harness would be a long weekend project if you had the motor and tranny prepped #23 · Dec 28, 2021 did you ever go thru with this swap? #24 · Dec 28, 2021 Aaaaaand this thread is about 8 years old.... #25 · Dec 28, 2021 i know i know!! i just "almost finished" building my spec v and i saw the VQ swaps and i was intrigued #26 · Feb 23, 2022 hows this for a thread revival.. 08 block, 350z oil pans, and upper/lower intake. cd009 trans, z carbon shaft, 3.6 rear, full s13 suspension.(mostly ISR) This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread.
