Vikings is now in its sixth series on History and Amazon Prime, and the historical drama features Jordan Patrick Smith as the valiant Ubbe. In the series, Ubbe is in a relationship with shieldmaiden Torvi (Georgia Hirst), but in real life he was previously in a relationship with a different co-star. Here is everything you need to know about the actor's former girlfriend, Sophie Vavasseur, and who she plays in the series.

Fans have taken a liking to Ubbe in Vikings and his character was last seen heading to Iceland with his partner Torvi to create new settlements.

In the series, he has a son with Torvi, and he has become a father figure to her other children, from her relationship with Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig).

Many of the cast members are in relationships with co-stars from the series, including Ludwig and his girlfriend Kristy Dawn Dinsmore, who plays Amma.

Fans may be interested to hear the Scottish-Australian actor was also in a relationship with a fellow Vikings actress - Sophie Vavasseur.

Vavasseur plays Princess Ellisif in the series - the princess who was once loved by King Harald (Peter Franzén).

The Irish actress, who is 28, visited Australia to spend a romantic birthday with her boyfriend and they shared photos of themselves on the beach.

The couple enjoyed a picnic on the beach in 2019 and she thanked Smith for spoiling her on her special day, leaving fans feeling jealous.

Smith and Vavasseur met on the set of Vikings and their relationship remained strong, despite Princess Ellisif being killed off by Halfdan (Jasper Pääkkönen) in the fourth season.

Smith, who is in his early 30s, was born in Fife in Scotland before his family emigrated to Australia in 2001.

He was cast as Andrew Robinson in the Australian soap opera Neighbours, and featured in the series until 2012.

The actor, who fell in love with Australia after a holiday there, has worked on a number of historical dramas including Banished.

Vavasseur, from Dublin, first rose to fame after playing the titular character in the 2002 film Evelyn.

She went on to star in Resident Evil: Apocalypse, Becoming Jane, and the cheerleading film Bring It On: Worldwide in 2017.

The star has also appeared on stage in the play Come On Over, and also starred as a possessed teenager in Exorcismus - a Spanish horror film.

She only featured in two episodes of Vikings, but her short time on set was enough for Smith to catch her eye and form a relationship with her.

In the series she attempted to kill King Harald after having sex with him, but she ends up being killed by Halfdan who intercepts.

Vavasseur had shared photos of the pair on her Instagram account and they both wear beaming smiles, and in May last year they celebrated her birthday together.

On-screen the pair do not tend to cross paths, so it must have taken something special to make them both notice each other.

Vavasseur has not posted many photos of herself with her co-star since, so it is not clear whether the pair are still in a relationship. The star is believed to now be dating a new girlfriend.

Emily Wetzel is the star's new girlfriend, and the pair have posted sweet photos together on their Instagram accounts. Wetzel said in a post: "Brightest star in my sky, JPS."

Meanwhile, Ludwig, who plays Bjorn in the series, is still in a relationship with his girlfriend Dinsmore, and he was seen kissing her on the red carpet at the 10th anniversary of CORE (Community Organised Relief Effort).

Ludwig was keen to share his excitement about his girlfriend joining the cast of Vikings, and he made the announcement on Instagram.

Dinsmore recently started self-isolating as a result of the coronavirus outbreak and she took to Instagram to let her followers know.

She said: "Yoga and classes aren’t more important than your health at this point. Also, who knows if we’re really being fed the entire truth and right information regarding everything.

"Let’s all be smart. Let’s not put people at risk more than we need to." There is no news of whether the couple are living together, so she may not be able to see Ludwig for a while.

Vikings will return to Amazon Prime and History at the end of 2020
