Kliffnotes I was given a 68 Beetle with a 71 engine. It doesn't run but did not too long ago. Someone did some work on it and now, its a no go. The wiring to the points is fried so I got a new electronic distributor. I think some of the wiring was done incorrectly. There are three wires that I think need to go to the positive, one of which I think goes to the choke. Then, there is a wire with an inline fuse that goes to the negative, right now. Does this sound right? I now need to create a new connection for the positive distributor wire as the old distributor didn't have that connection. #1 · Mar 9, 2020 I was given a 68 Beetle with a 71 engine. On the Positive side I also have 2 extra wires 1x going to the choke & 1x to the anti run-on device on the carb. #3 · Mar 11, 2020 Thanks. I got it to run for a couple of seconds, yesterday, so I think I'm on the right track with the wiring. #4 · Mar 11, 2020 Might help if there are 2 of you, one to turn the key the other to slowly twist the dizzy to catch if to make it fire. #5 · Mar 11, 2020 Thanks again for the advice. I will have to enlist my wife. #6 · Jul 1, 2021 (Edited) I had the same problem with the same car. I tried to understand what the problem was, and I even tried to solve it, but I didn't manage. Always I had trouble with wires; I wasn't sure which is the correct way to put them. My father told me about an electrician company from Lane Cove a long time ago, but I ignored what he said till the problem appeared. I found them on gordonpowers.com.au, and I started to read about their work. They seemed trustworthy to me, and I decided to ask for their help. It was definitely a good choice because they solved my cars problem very fast and well and now I don't have any problems as in the past. Insert Quotes Post Reply
