nominal N Hi all, I'm a newbie here and any help on a diagnosis for my X3 4X4 problem would be much appreciated. I have a recently purchased 07 X3 E83 3.0si auto with 77,000 kilometres on the clock. Had it for two weeks with no issues then started getting intermittent 4X4 and brake warning lights coming on together (no ABS warning light). The warnings have become more persistent and now come on about 90 percent of the time. Bought a Foxwell NT510 Pro scanner with the BMW software and scanned the car. Got VTG code 55C4 "no message from DSC" and ABS/DSC code 6E3C "DSC interface engine". No error codes for wheel speed sensors, steering angle sensor, yaw angle sensor. The car has four brand new, star marked, Pirelli Scorpion STR 235/55 tyres on standard 17 inch alloys. Battery is newish and fully charged. Have scoured the net and found not a single instance of anyone getting error code 6E3C. Anyone got any ideas? #1 · Aug 7, 2018 Hi all, I'm a newbie here and any help on a diagnosis for my X3 4X4 problem would be much appreciated. Any physical symptoms other than the lights? With your windows down, listen for a clicking noise from underneath when the car is turned off after a drive. Also try driving slowly in a very tight circle -- any binding feeling/noise? #8 · Jan 12, 2021 0 Reply #3 · Aug 9, 2018 Thanks for your help. No ticking noise from transfer case actuator. Car doesn't seem to misbehave when turning sharply at low speed. Will check the grounding straps this weekend. Started thinking it may be steering angle sensor. I read further that the SAS should be calibrated after a wheel alignment. The car had a wheel alignment when I got the new tyres and I doubt whether the tyre dealer did a SAS calibration. Anyway, on my Foxwell NT510 Pro I did a wheel slippage system calibration followed by a SAS calibration. The slippage system calibrated but the SAS failed to calibrate. Started thinking it may be faulty. Got the 4X4 and brake light yellows twice more after doing the calibrations and then they disappeared and have not come on for the last half a dozen drives of the car whereas before they were coming on most of the time. A real head scratcher. Will wait and see whether they stay off before I pronounce a cure. Thanks again for your input. #4 · Aug 9, 2018 Straps often look good, but are bad. Replacing them is PM that might solve or help strange problems. Fortunately no SAS problems on my two, yet! :) #5 · Oct 9, 2018 nominal, Any luck finding the problem? My 07 E83 has the triad of lights, ABS, Brake (yellow), and 4x4. It downloads 55C4 and 581D. I've replaced the right rear wheel speed sensor twice. Both OEM. The second one had rubbed. I tried to keep the second one further away but it gave me a gap error. The wheel speed sensor appears to be working. I watch the live data on my Foxwell 510 and it corresponds with other three. My next step is to investigate why the first wheel speed sensor made contact. #6 · Oct 9, 2018 Hi my99bimmer, In my case the problem got worse, then got better which leads me to suspect the ignition switch as the culprit. At first I'd get 4x4 and yellow brake lights (no ABS) on ignition about 70 percent of the time. Then the problem got worse with an airbag warning light thrown in as well and failure of all the steering wheel controls (no horn, cruise control or stereo controls). When the lights were on my Foxwell would show more fault codes than Apollo 13. This went on for over a month then mysteriously fixed itself with the car starting normally more and more often. I haven't seen the lights for over a week now including a 2000 kilometre road trip. Cruise, horn and stereo controls all work normally. Am about to book the car in with an indie mechanic who might get to the bottom of the problem, but for now just happy to have a fully functional X3. Love the car, by the way. Punchy and velvet smooth 3.0si six and sweet handling make it a true SUV sports car. First car I have owned that is more than just an appliance. Hope your speed sensor issues resolve, at least the sensors are relatively inexpensive. All, the best #7 · Oct 11, 2018

how old is the battery? Sent from my SM-J727T using Bimmerfest mobile app 0 Reply #9 · Jan 12, 2021 I have the same problem and my car does tend to make a binding noise on my first full turn when leaving my driveway. Any suggestions on what the problem might be? #10 · Jan 12, 2021 Reset the SAS, and then replace the TC's actuator's gear and fluid. And clean/inspect the wheel speed sensors and their reluctor rings. #11 · Jan 13, 2021
