I have uninstalled and reinstalled, gone from X7 to X8. HELP! Thanks, Guy jfullert September 20, 2017, 5:03pm 2 Hi, My answer may only apply to people with the developmental version of Mendeley. EndNote technical support just resolved this on my PC with Windows 7, Word 2013, and the developmental version of Mendeley (a version that is not distributed to the public except by signing up for it). The app add in was what seemed to be causing the conflict. In my version of Word the place to turn it off is Word File menu + Options + Add-Ins+ in the Manage list at the foot of the window go to Word Add-ins and unselect the Mendeley developmental add-in. I’ve had the Mendeley add-in for months and never saw this before, so it may just be with the most recent developmental version or versions. Can still edit citations already in document but cannot add new ones in this document or a new one. Also tried removing formatting , copy into new doucment and reformatting. I did exactly what John said and it sorted out the error immediately. The error of ‘‘Can’t edit range’’ came up with my Endnote after I signed up and installed Mendeley. It should be consistent with the previous citation style. Once you change the style it will work and you can change the one you want from the style list. daphne_8 January 15, 2018, 7:59pm 18 This hasn’t worked for me unfortunately. I removed Mendeley as a programme and add-in in Word but I have the same issue with EndNote. I mainly use the online version of EndNote but this problem appears with the desktop version as well. Also, I don’t always get a ‘cannot edit range’ error - if I try to add a new reference to a document with existing Endnote reference, it adds them as text within the document, rather than following the selected referencing style. Any other suggestions? I’ve also tried ‘repairing’ Word but that didn’t seem to work either.
