I have been coloring it for five years, always in the scale of brown to cover grey hair. Last time I colored my hair mahogany brown, it got too dark in the bottom and I therefor tried this product. I was very strict doing the procedures as written. The top of my hair lightened a bit, but still in the red scale, the bottom is still totally dark. Show details
Not great – I used a medium brown rinse on my blonde highlighted hair. It turned my hair pitch-black. I used colourless hair remover. It hasn’t returned it to its previous blonde, but it has lightened it to brown. Suppose I’m grateful it’s no longer black -but I had expected the product to take more colour out. Show details
Does as promised, without damage, but read all the fine print! – Didn't damage hair at all and took me down from a dark brown to a light copper in 2 applications. My hair is grey so the base colour would be a stain from the dye. They have a great FAQ on their website that tells you all this, what results you can get from different hair, etc. Please read it, and the insert. They tell you it won't work on fashion… Read more
colours like purple or green, metallic dyes, or toners. You'll get badly funky colours from this. I'm guessing this is where bad reviews come from, I can see people have done this. I used Vit C and clarifying shampoo for an over aggressive toner to great success. Colourless is gentle enough to colour the next day after, unlike other colour strippers according to their site. I found it did no damage to my hair at all. I used my conditioner, not theirs as I prefer my brand. I love it.
Waste of money – We used this twice adhering to the instructions given inside the box, it didn’t so much as lift the colour a few shades, it was a total waste of money unfortunately I threw away the reciept Show details
Time waster – I've been a hairdresser for 30yrs' always been honest with clients about treatments etc, (even when they weren't happy if i said a treatment wouldnt work on their hair)---not in a salon now' but thought I'd give this ago on my sister who has box dyed dark hair ( only did root retouch when needed) been growing out for 6mths'- has 5 inches of GREY … Read more
regrowth - it's what she's aiming for to be natural!! We did everything it said on the instructions, 2 BOXES & 3 1/2 hours later ,-- absolutely nothing , not even a stain during the rinse! Not recommended at all , £30 , WASTED- ( we bought 3 boxes) and used loads of water which I hated to do - not eco friendly! ( not sure if I can return 3rd box back to retailer! )
Decent Degree of Fade – I’m a natural red head, who has I’ve been coloring for many years. I wanted to stop coloring and let the gray come in. With 3 inches of regrowth I used Colourless and, although I did go much lighter, I expected more of a difference. It is now a copper blonde but not offensive. Will try again in a week and see what happens. Show details
I would rate this 0 stars if I could – Cant find the colourless extra review so I'll write it here. Waste of time, money, did not work one bit, rank smell. I've wasted my money on better things. I hope whoever made this never gets a comfortable sleep ever again and steps on lego for the rest of their existence Show details
Smells awful – It removed my red dye well, however the smell was borderline unbearable putting it on and it will not wash away, I’ve tried heaps of different methods but I cannot get the Sulphur stench out of my hair. Show details
Worth a shot – I’m dyed dark brown and wanted to try and lift some of the dye. Result - it has lifted the colour a smidge, more so in some places than others. Has left my hair feeling quite dry but nothing a couple of conditioning treatments shouldn’t be able to sort out. If anything, it’s probably blended the natural silvers better and lifted some… Read more
highlights.
I timed each phase using a timer and after the second shampoo my hair was knotted and felt dry so even though it’s not stated, I put on a ton of conditioner so my hair could at least get rid of some of the knots.
Online reviews say the smell is horrible, like rotten eggs and lingers for weeks. False! It’s really just smells like the perm solution from the 80s. Next morning a very faint linger but gone by the following day. I’m thinking those moaning, didn’t actually do the rinse process as long as required.
Recommendation: Worth a shot if you can put up with dry hair for a week or so.
PreviousDissatisfied – Followed the instructions to the letter, top of my head was orange and the bottom half still dark, left my hair smelling like Rotorua for days. Will have to reapply with a different brand. Show details
Good and bad – It removed my colour really well and followed directions perfectly. The amount of colour it removed was very impressive. My issue is of course the smell, but the biggest struggle for me is since using it colours don't stick to my hair. Currently doing cleanses to strip anything left over from it. My hairdresser has definitely noticed more damage… Read more
and issues applying toners since which I never previosuly has issues with. I feel like it's a get what you pay for type of thing.
Awesome! Saves alot of money at hairdressers..a lot! – Works every time, so what if it's smelly, it's an hr of your life and works wonders. Always removes black box dye and sends me orange or yellow but that's great as atleast you can get desired colours from there but let's face it U can't do anything with black hair. Love it and highly recommend if Ur not expecting Ur Natural hair colour and just want to remove dye and lighten so U can work on desired colours Show details
Worked well to strip most colour, but vile sulphur smell reappears every time hair is washed. (Going on 2 weeks.) – This hair dye remover works very well to remove colour. I had deep purple in my chin length hair. After applying one box, it evenly removed the colour back to a pastel pink shade. Given I had used an original dye with ammonia in it, and my hair was platinum prior, I am happy with the result. Perhaps a second box may strip back the pink? The one… Read more
downside for me is the smell every time I have washed my hair since using this product. It is a vile, very strong chemical/sulphur smell that reactivates and lasts for hours until my hair is very dry again. Then it smashes in again at the next wash. It's so offensive that in public people have commented on the smell. Worse than walking past a nail salon.
Overall results are good though. Smell, not so much.

Compare allDid what it was meant to! – Did great. I have naturally dark brown hair with lots of grey which has been dyed with layers and layers of black permanent box dye. My brown hair went a medium to dark brown with orange and red undertones and my greys went a medium to light orange colour. This is expected because the dye I was using had red undertones so it was assumed it… Read more
would be orange/red. Hair is lighter than before dying because the dye I was using contained peroxide.
My hair felt insanely dry after I rinsed out step 3 but after my usual deep condition my hair feels healthier than it has in over a year. It definitely stripped all of the built up products out of my hair allowing the condition to work better, it is less frizzy and way softer than before. I would highly recommend this.
Hair went darker – So my hair was bright pink/purple. Applied this to the letter. It washes out to be NAVY! Now it looks electric blue with the ends still navy. Could’ve done that with a bleach wash anyway… Show details
Get rid of the smell - star rating at 5 to draw attention to issue – A lot of users complain about the smell and having used similar product can say that I had a sleepless night due to the lingering sulphuric smell in my hair. I thought about baking soda ... used to eliminate odours in the fridge? I mixed apx 3 tbs of my regular shampoo with 2 tbs of baking soda, massaged through towel dried hair, wrapped in towel and left for 1/2 hour and hey presto! the smell was gone !!! Show details
Worked initially, then went back to black – 3 nights ago I used this product, despite the very strong sulpha smell, it initially worked a treat. My hair was super soft, shiny, and a nice brown. I could even see my old highlights showing through. Fast forward to tonight and my hair is back to almost black. I haven't dyed it, I haven't used any products with colour in them. I'm very confused… Read more
as to why this has happened, and I'm still left with the god awful sulpha smell. My husband is calling me "fart hair". Not happy and now I have to find something else.
PreviousWow I am actually shocked – Ok, so I am a blonde and recently( 4 months ago) dyed my hair black. I used garnier nutriesse… and have been touching up the roots approx fortnightly. Wanting to go blonde again I purchased this product. I was hesitant due to the reviews but thought what the heck. It was easy to do, smelt funny, but was fine. I highly recommend using a really… Read more
good conditioner afterwards!
I was so shocked to see, no black at all, more of a red/blonde/rust.
But very happy so far with the transition
Buy it ! It is definitely worth it…. My hair is wet in the photo
100% Happy – Simple & easy to use. I followed the instructions to a T. I had previously salon bleached hair which was then box dyed very dark & then box dyed bright red. I used Colourless Max Effect. Cling wrapped my hair, used a timer for rinsing ect. I am very happy with the result. The integrity of my hair is fantastic. It’s soft & shiny. My hair is a light… Read more
brown colour, very close to my natural colour. The smell is on par with perming solution and after rinsing & conditioning, I’m left with lovely clean smelling hair. This product is amazing and I am so happy I have no need to use bleach. I definitely recommend this product, very happy.
I would give it 0 stars waste of £10. It didn't touch the colour and the smell is vile – I have a semi permanent blue colour in my blonde hair. Didn't touch the blue and made my blonde ginger Show details
This product actually does work – This product has literally removed all the colours out of my hair I’ve been red purple black and now it’s back to my natural brown colour after one use apart from the smell it’s actually amazing !! Show details
BAD!!!! – Would give it 0 if I could, barely touched let alone removed the hair dye after following instructions thoroughly. Would not recommend! Absolute waste of money and definitely not purchasing again. Show details

Compare allWould rather be run over than use this again – Used this to try remove some remaining blue colour from my last purple dye. Followed the directions to a T. The smell was so bad and lingers in your hair and clothes. Rinsed it out and it didn’t do anything but leave my hair dry, stringy and smelling like rotten eggs. Show details
Waste of money – I grew out my hair during the Covid pandemic when all the hairdressers were closed. I ended up with a lovely salt & pepper colour and for the first time in years, my hair matched my eyebrows. Moving forward one year, I got bored with the colour and purchased a semi-permanent light brown shampoo from the supermarket. Move forward 2 months and the… Read more
semi-permanent colour did not wash off one bit which resulted in the purchase of this money waster. I followed the instructions to the T, and spent at least 30min in the shower, rinsing and shampooing only to come out with strawberry blond/orange hair. WTH?? I did have a leftover deep conditioner from the semi-permanent dye so my hair felt fine afterwards. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about the colour. From brown to an orange tint. The pictures below are my original virgin salt&peper hair and the aftermath of semi-permanent colour and Colourless Hair Colour Remover.
Bad bad bad – Didn't do anything for my hair waste of time and energy!! No changes at all I watched all the videos with amazing results I got no result at all. I followed Al the instructions perfectly really annoying Show details
It turned my hair orange/blonde – I didn't have high hopes but bought it on sale. Previously only had a few semi-perm colours in my hair and I could notice a slight red where it had started to settle. Decided to try this. The smell is very odd but the main surprise was the outcome. At worst, I expected no change, instead my hair seems visibility lighter. It's not.. orange.. it's… Read more
not blonde... but it's 100% not my normal colour. Bottle D was also missing from the box. Wouldn't buy again, hair is very dry but I think a bit of deep conditioning will help. Buy this only if you a prepared to live with whatever consequences it gives you (otherwise pay for a hairdresser). Lots of people seem to be having this same result (orange/blonde) but considering that is not what the box claimed, I'm not sure why they are so happy!
Works well if you follow the instructions – I used this yesterday on my long hair. Great results. I have been dying my naturally light brown hair a darker shade of brown, and occasionally red, for the past 20+ years. You need to understand that the instructions are to be followed precisely, if it says to rinse for 5 minutes you need to rinse for 5 minutes. Not 4 minutes. Not 3 minutes. Get… Read more
a clock and place it somewhere you can view it from the shower. There are a total of three 5-minute rinsing sessions per application. This means you'll be rinsing your hair for a minimum of 15 minutes. This doesn't include the time specified for the two shampoos. If you spend less than 20 minutes in the shower working on your hair then I can guarantee you've not followed the instructions properly. There should not be a strong sulphur smell once you've finished all three rinse sessions, dead giveaway you've not rinsed for the specified amount of time if your hair still stinks after the treatment.
PreviousMix feelings – The smell is awfull a mix between rotten egg and bad perfume. For me the black stay in my hair but the red fade well i dont recommand this at all for black Show details
Disappointed – My hair fine was red and still is red fooled instructions and still red wouldn't recommend this product. Knew I should of bought colour rewind... Avoid at all costs @ £9.99! Had to rate it but personally wouldn't of. Show details
Does not work – Followed instructions to the letter, and I still look like a cross between Ed sheeran and Ekton John, ugh, please shoot me now, think the only way to get rid of the colour is to chop it out, oh and the smell dear god its awful Show details
AVOID UNLESS YOU WANT TO LOSE YOUR HAIR! – Absolutely destroyed my hair! I used this to remove a dark toner my hairdresser put on over my blond highlights & it did lift the colour a bit but I've lost half my hair since!! Literally every day now for 6 weeks, fist fulls of my hair snap off. Worst thing I've ever done to by hair. Avoid at all costs Show details
Don't waste your time or money – Bought the kit followed it to the letter. Mid you I only had half a head to strip. And not only does it NOT WORK, it leaves your hair porus, rough and reeks of the disgusting chemicals. Even after washing and drying and then giving it a sofetning treatment it still smells gross and it's still pink! So save your time and save your money. No once cares about you. You cannot contact anyone there is no contact available. Show details
Was an expirence – Was very easy to mix and apply to the hair, little bit watery. Results afterwards were ok it did remove some of the blue but dishwashing liquid did a better job. Omg the sell of this product was horrendous, bin smell crosseds with rotten eggs. I've tryed everything to get rid of this smell outta my hair and after 4 days I can still smell it… Read more
9/10 don't recommend on behalf of the smell left in my hair it gets worse when it's wet aswell. On review standard dishwashing liquid did a better job
Don't understand the bad reviews - they're clearly not doing it right! – Red, brown, black - I've been them all and it removes hair dye! I wanted to go racing green from being scarlet red and it removed the red dye effectively. It works on both semi-permanent and permanent dyes. I dye my hair a myriad of colours frequently and this is my go-to colour remover. We can't expect it to be easy to remove hair colour and it… Read more
is time consuming but if you are set on removing colour, that's the price you pay. Keeping your hair warm during the process is KEY! That's probably how the chemical process of removal is activated. Also, if your hair is in a bad condtion before use of this product, you will no doubt experience ill effects. It's not the product that is the issue, it's the consumer using it. Before you use it, know your hair!*
Made no difference whatsoever!!! – Oh why didn't I check these reviews first? I have long hair, so as recommended on the product box I purchased two of these. and followed the instructions to the letter. The solution is watery and hard to apply but I persevered and my hair was 'saturated' as recommended. I feel the whole process was tedious and it made absolutely no different to my… Read more
