Colourless Max Effect Hair Colour Remover – Review

I have been toying with the idea of changing my hair colour for a few weeks. I am currently a medium golden brown and I would like to go blonde. I haven’t been dying my hair every often lately in an attempt to grow my hair but I haven’t found my hair is better off without dying (still really the same situation not growing and lots of fall out) so I thought stuff it. I never really wanted to go darker my hair was a lovely bleach blonde a couple of years ago with micro ring extensions and I loved it, but I thought the bleaching with taking its toll on my hair so I had the extensions removed and went to a dark brown. I have only been redoing my roots every 2-3 months but now I have the problem at the tender age of 29 GREY HAIRS! Yes you read that right I have grey hairs 😦

So today’s task is to remove the dye currently in my hair and I wanted to do this with little damage to my hair as possible. I have used colour B4 a few times and as it’s bleach based I wanted to stay clear of it this time, I didn’t want the horrible task of sorting out orange, brassy tones and cause unnecessary hair breakage. I came across Colourless hair colour remover on the Make Up Revolution website (yes I have been ordering more eye shadow palettes more on that later) The colourless hair colour remover claims to remover black, brown, red and build up, Its also safe, gentle, no bleach or ammonia. I went for the max effect but you can also get Go Blonde, Max Condition, and Pre Colour, the go blonde contains bleach so that’s why I didn’t choose the one. The Max effect is meant to wash you’re colour away.

The Max effect box contains 3 bottles, gloves (the horrible plastic bag type) and instructions. My first job was to place Bottle A into bottle B and shake for a minute. Then I applied the contains of bottle B to dry hair. The lotion is quite watery so if like me and you place the lotion into you’re hand and then place on you’re hair be careful of spillage, I also suggest wear an old t-shirt. So once the lotion is on leave for 45 minutes (set a timer) the instructions say to wrap your hair in cling film I don’t have any so I have used an old towel. The box claims the lotion has a “Fresh fragrance” I personally don’t like the fragrance at all it smells of chemicals and not very pleasant. I will admit I haven’t done a patch test or a strand test but if you do have sensitive skin or worried about how you’re hair will react don’t forget to do one. The lotion didn’t burn while it was on my hair but did give a tingling sensation while on. I only have shoulder length hair so one box was more then enough for me but if you have long hair you may require two boxes.

Okay I have now washed the lotion out for 5 minutes with warm water, then applied half of bottle C massaged into my hair for 1 minute and rinsed out for 5 minutes. I then repeated the last step with the rest of bottle C. I didn’t notice any colour come out while I was rising at any point, I guess this product breaks the hair colour molecules down. My hair certainty feels every fragile but very little hair breakage while rinsing which is a huge plus for me. My hair is still wet right now so I can’t tell if the colour remover has worked like I wanted but my ends do appear lighter. Another reason I chose the Colourless hair remover over Colour B4 is because you can use a hair dye on you’re hair straight after where as Colour B4 you have to wait a week or so because it’s bleach based.

As you can see from the before and after photos my hair colour has lightened a few shades (please excuses my bare face) I definitely recommend the Colourless hair Colour Remover the only down side to it is the smell (which I can still smell on my hair after using the shampoo) but if you can put up with the smell it’s a gentler way of removing previous dyes from you’re hair without the damage of bleach. You can purchase the Colourless hair Colour remover from tambeauty Superdrug Boots the current price is £6.66 on all 3 sites (RRP is £9.99) **This is not a sponsored post**
