There’s been some argument about this. Either Yana thinks it’s cute and is keeping Ciel short for comic relief or Ciel’s height means something else entirely. Let’s list what we know:

Ciel has matured, but height-wise, he’s still as tall as he was when he was ten. It’s been 3 years and characters (notably Sebastian) keep commenting on how he hasn’t grown at all. Now we know Yana is a master of subtlety. And I think it’s safe to say that this point in the series, things are getting less supernatural and more scientific.

Before I go on, I’d also like to point out the following about Ciel:

• He has a massive sweet tooth (and likes “junk food” for lack of better word)
• He’s very loyal to the British Empire
• He knows Victoria personally
• He’s arrogant but also vulnerable and unstable
• He once spoke in third-person

Those are facts. Which gives me reason to believe the following.

Ciel is basically this guy:

That’s right. Ciel is part Irken. And the average Irken is roughly Ciel’s height.

Irkens are: short, eat junk food, loyal to their empire.

Zim, pictured above, is: Irken, arrogant, speaks in third person, knows his leaders personally, arrogant/vulnerable/unstable.

In conclusion, Ciel is obviously a defective part-Irken.

Okay, but…Ciel is 152 cm (5’) The average height for a boy his age is 147.32 cm (4′9″) by today’s standards. Back in the late 1800s it would have been a little shorter, yet. Ciel’s actually tall (Above average) for a boy his age in the world he lives in.If he hasn’t grown much (or at all) in three years, that means he was extremely tall for his age when he made the contract with Sebastian.Kids can have growth spurts and get really tall, really fast, and then they slow down for a while again, then they have another spurt. Seeing as he’d been such a tall kid, he’s probably just in a slower growing faze, and THAT is more what Sebastian is talking about, rather than saying he’s super short.

As for how Lizzy is taller than Ciel, she’s actually older than he is and is hitting the age where girls often grow faster than boys.

^ It’s all true, but I put the original under a “read more” because I 100% agree that Ciel’s height isn’t a plot point and is perfectly normal given his age/circumstances + he’s not that short. The picture of Zim under the cut was supposed to be the punchline indicating how I really felt about Ciel’s “shortness.”

Anyway, the average Irken is approximately the height of a human child (ages 11-13), with varying degrees of height like humans- they can range from Ciel’s height to Lizzie’s or even Edward’s height. Ciel, being in the prime of smeethood, may hit a spurt and grow up to become the Almighty Tallest. Or maybe he’ll be stuck as Zim forever. We can only wait and see if this super serious conjecture comes true.
